Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Need help choosing a chainring

I have a Shimano 105 crank with a 130BCD. I am looking for a 42t chainring and I found these two that looked pretty good

I'm not sure about the rocket because the solid ring thing doesn't look all that hot. But sheldon recommends it for increased durability. What do you think?

BTW: I'm using a KMC Z 610 3/32" chain.

I have a rocket ring, and IMHO it is pretty ugly. It is on a conversion though, so the circular saw look goes ok..

I'd advise against Rocket Ring - they just don't seem to be very lasting.

On the other hand, I have always been, and still am, quite pleased with Sugino chainrings.

Funny while I've never used a rocket ring I can't imagine anything being much worse than those cheap Al suginos.

A cheap Al Rocket Ring?

Of course, a steel Surly chainring would be better than both, but anyhow, my personal experience has been that Sugino chainrings last longer than Rocket Ring. But here's the deal: the worst chainring I have ever had the misfortune to use is Vuelta's - the ones that look a lot like the Rocket Rings. These are probably made of an alloy of butter and mercury.

Another vote for Rocket Ring. I actually think they look quite good, a solid disk.

Agreed, the older "universal" chainrings not branded rocket are junk, mine deformed like it had been hit with a hammer at the base of the teeth in under 1000 miles. Rockets are great, they are kind of ugly but I'm on the bike so I don't have to look at it :)

FSA makes a pretty good chainring in that size.. u dont necessiarily need ramped and pinned.. but they those are pretty good...but if i want something 1/8 pitch... look elsewhere...

Interesting company - I am intrigued by their chain tensioner! I really need that.
