Mountain Biking - Crashes of the year

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

ok, lets hear all the stories about crashes, your injuries, and broken parts. its time to tell all your most exciting stories. heck, even if you didnt crash, lets hear about this years journeys.
My adventures:
i didnt brake anything this year, i guess i was lucky, though i do need new grips, tires, and maybe another couple odd parts, but nothing too expensive. This year was my most progressive, I learned things that I thought I couldnt. So ya, nothing exciting for me...yet (ill try and squeeze another month of riding out of this season).

oh wait, i forgot about my fav. crash: went off the back side off a ramp at my skatepark(not on purpose) - 6 foot drop to nothing, my bike was ok but i front flipped (literally) and landed on my wrists/arms and the whole left side of my right hand was internally bruised for like 3 weeks, but i've never broken a bone or anything so i'm ok:).
I learned that whenever I use the word "I" that it is not supposed to be lower case. Other than that I had a crash here and there but nothing spectacular. I also learned that I am still a cat 4 but hoping to change that early next year.
Standing still at a red light and fell over.

i've had a few crashes this year...
first one is this... http://youtube.com/watch?v=ozY_RtR7S1Awhich in april and the tamest of them all.
the second, was in april as well, coming down this fecker of a hill, http://ardri.150m.com/startwhw/index.html (look 11 and 12 pictures in for the crash site) i fly over the bars and landed on my head, just aswell i started wearing a helmet the month before for the first time in my life, that could have resulted in serious head injury.
the third, was a game of chicken with a cat 50 yards from my front door and the cat won! I was going through a lane i usually do, when this wee kitten(not even a fully grown cat) jumps out from nowhere and sprawls out right infront of me, i slam on the brakes, endo too much, and it's over the bars for me greeted by a nice soft comfortable slab of concrete..(this crash was easily the sorest).
and the forth and final crash(so far this year) i was on a trail about 2 months ago. i'm flying down it and come to a sharp u turn/switchback and start attacking the next bit of trial, unfortunately my lines off and i don't notice the log infront of me until it's unavoidable, i hit it and fly of the bike. luckily i had enough warning so that i could pick my landing which was on my back pack(nice soft landing). i tumble a good few times and come to a stop about 15 ft from where i started with not a scratch on me, until my final tumble where i hit my ankle on another log, lightest of touches, but easily the sorest thing about it!! was lucky i choose one of the very few bit of trail around without jaggy rocks to land on, i count myself very very luck i wasn't seriously injured in this one.
i await my next crash with great excitement! :D
Was that supposed to be a shot at me?:p
Nobody in particular. I'm just amazed at how many people on here aren't using any where close to proper grammar these days. Check out the forum guildelines that everyone agreed to when they signed up.
Posts which intend to disrupt the topic of conversation or steer the topic away from the focus of the forum and related news. Disruption can include harassment, multiple user profiles, multiple posting of the same post and posting completely off topic messages. Please do your best when it comes to grammar, punctuation and spelling. Excessive use of "AOL'ese" and "hAx0r" talk can be very disruptive so please keep it to a minimum.

Ah, but now you have. Fixed.:p
Probably the one that was the worst for me so far this year was during a relay race where I had to do two laps. I went out strong and felt great. One section of the trail has a small log pile on the right and a very large one on the left. What I didn't know is there was a cut back that, if you went left, you could come back behind the small log pile on the right. During the pre-ride, I (notice I capitalized it) went over the small pile and got a little air, but not much. Well, during the race, I was faster so this time, I got a lot more air.
I hate it when you're in the air and think "oh, this is going to hurt". Went over the bars, barely got an arm extendend to help break the fall and landed square on my chest, then my head hit. This smashed the sunglasses into my face and caused lots of bruising (black eyes and on my forehead), some road rash on my chin, elbow, and hand. It took a couple of minutes to get back up on the bike as I had to collect my breath. Unfortunately, the bike stopped shifting properly so the rest of the lap was a throw away. But I did borrow someone else's bike (not all that it's cracked up to be) and finished my second lap all busted and bleeding.
A couple of funny things: when I came in from the first lap, everyone in our little area (7-10 people) were looking at me like I was Frankenstein and had no idea what to do. I kept telling them that I needed another bike and we finially figured it out and I got them focused on the race.
The next day at work (I work in an office in a relatively high visability position), although I looked like I lost a bar fight, scraped knuckles, black eyes, road rash on the face, everyone who saw me immediately said "Mountain biking?". :o:D

reminds me of crash number 5 i forgot about! got the exact same reaction!
short version, me and a m8 tried this jump, one after the other,(wasn't really a jump, just a pipe letting a ford over the road, anyhow, we jump it first time without actually looking to see if there is enough path to land the jump, which there wasn't it veered of to the left, i landed fine but couldn't steer away from the unavoidable! needless to say we both ended up, upside down, head first in the watery ditch at the left hand side, was absolutley hilarous!! :D i have since considered buying a full face helmet since then!! :D

...i think the grammar gestapo may well come under this guideline!;)I don't detect a 'grammar gestapo' as much as Forum members who know how to write in complete, coherent sentences and who cringe at the carnage they witness. At some point, you just can't keep quiet any longer and you have to say something.
Now, for crashes: My doozy was a simple rock gap-drop-to-tranny that I've looked at for four or five years. Not a big one but the run-in is a little sketch. The Gran Mal maybe has inspired confidence beyond my good sense and I decided that was the day to go for it. Nosed straight into the tranny, over the bars and landed on my head and shoulder. It rang my bell so hard, that a young friend I was riding with drove me home that night. Oops.

really i post on forums to waste time at work, and i'm not going to waste time in work worrying about what some pedant thinks of my writing style on which is just bascally a glorified chat room. i'm a graphic designer i know typography and it's benefits, of which i don't really see a great deal of on forums. actually *******ising the language can be a good thing on forums. my scots slang posting doesn't work here because most here don't get the humour, therefore i'll tend not to do it apart from unintentionally or when i've had a few :D, it works elsewhere tho..but anyhow, that's my opinion i'll say no more.. apart from there is the ignore button, learn how to use it or live and let live..

grammar is there to distinguish and make it easier to understand a message, story, conversation or whatever, it's the rules of written communication, typography is pretty much the same thing took to a different level last i looked and would be pretty hard if you didn't have a firm grasp on the former.

When you signed up to the forum you clicked a little box saying that you had read them and you understood them. Therefore, you agreed to them. You not wanting to take the two minutes to read them is not a valid excuse.

Listen, you are walking on extremely thin ice right now. I'd suggest acting your age and typing like someone your age. That includes using upper cased letters to start a sentence and proper punctuation to end the sentence.
If someone was going to your business hoping to get something done for them and saw how well you typed and spelled out things, they would turn right around and find someone else. Bad grammar and spelling are signs of being unprofessional.

Post like an intelligent adult and I won't have to take the threads off topic. Take a look at how the members that have been around this place for a while type. Complete sentences, paragraphs, capital letters, etc. They make it easy to read their threads and understand their posts. Don't you think this is a good thing?
Why would anyone even waste their time trying to read countless lines of dribble that appears to have been written by a seven year old?

I remember one time I didn't agree..... that sucked, so I had to go back and agree to get my software to work.
on the wrecks, none really, but I did turn my shins to a bloody mess with some platform pedals.. I have since ordered me some clipless pedals so the worst crash is probably yet to come.

You probably *separated* a rib, not broke, parted one rib from another.
Your right, it DOES hurt for a long time. Can take longer to heal than a
broken rib easily.
