I just purchased a 73 raleigh super course that I am upgrading a bit into a commuter on the cheap. The original brooks was replaced with a crap saddle. I would love a brooks but can't spend the money for one. I found this at nycbikes for $12. It is comfortable, not too much padding, and looks cool. I just need to rub the ccm logos off. I have seen them on ebay for even cheaper.

I just did a brief 7 mile today on it and it felt great.

you can usually get NOS brooks or ideal saddles on ebay for about 20 bucks

Admittedly a longer shot, but worth following up: If you ever see eBay listings for a "Favorit saddle", jump on it! These are Czechoslovakian saddles from the 60's, identical to Brooks but, in the old Eastern Block tradition, a little cruder and "built strong like tractor".

I've got three of them currently on my TdF, Bianchi Nyala and Magneet Sprint - they're as good as any Brooks I've ever owned, might even outlast them (the leather is a bit thicker), and individually they cost me about $35.00 each, including shipping - brand new, mind you.

^^^ ha, I'm glad you said something because the price of vintage saddles on ebay sometimes eclipses new saddles. I saw a throughly abused B.15 go for the price of a new professional-- it didn't make any sense.

You may have seen the starting price; Brooks saddles have a price premium like NJS track bikes. Totally insane.

"Used Brooks B-17 for sale. Only stored outdoors for the last twenty years."

Sells for $80.

edit: here's a new B-17 for $55 Buy it Now (http://cgi.ebay.com/Brand-New-Brooks-B17-Standard-Saddle_W0QQitemZ130159492634QQihZ003QQcategoryZ22693QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

Hmmmmmm. <leaves to go do some bidding>

A couple of years ago, I snagged some *used* B17 saddles on eBay for around $30 by using auction sniper, but most went for much more than that. I also bought two used B17s for $25 each from a local CL seller (plus two B72s), but I have to say that all of those saddles weren't going to last a heck of a lot longer, and the used saddle market has inflated crazily since then. If I needed one now, I'd shell out the money for a new one as it would last for years.
