I am building up a very nice touring bike right now, should I do what I can to keep it off the salty roads? I am building up some maxi-car touring hubs right now, and if anything they are designed to go through anything... but...

Would simply waxing and wiping down now and then be enough? I ride and commute year round in philadelphia no matter the weather, should I use a beater bike instead? (id much rather simply ride my good bike everyday). Thanks for the input!

I've found that rinsing the salt brine off at the end of the day is generally sufficient, and expect to replace the chain at the end of the winter.

I think you're on the right track. As long as you have the bike apart, treat the inside of the frame with "Frame Saver" or similar rust inhibitor treatment. It can't hurt to protect it from the inside as well.
