Congrats!!!!!
I don't think that is a possibility for me in my life, but I really enjoy seeing others do so well in something that takes a lot of effort and training!!!!!!
Great Job!!!!
Thanks! And to think I started my HR monitor training with advice from this forum 2 years ago! :)

I just heard on the news today, that one person died during the marathon, and over 200 were treated at local hospitals and on site. The other report was that they actually shut down the race at one point.
Nono, it was the Twincities marathon, Minneapolis/St. Paul. We were almost as bad. 250 people in hospital, 4000 DNF's I hear, and 1.5 degrees from being shut down.
Great job, when are you gonna do your next one?

You know, the thing about marathons is, you gotta do one to prove to yourself you never want to train for another one ever again. :D
Nah, next year I'll do a coupla half marathons with my wife, then maybe 2009 a full marathon again. It's a long process and takes up much of the summer. I only got in 500 miles on the bike this year.

You survived that humidity? Congratulations!
I did my first (and probably last) Twin Cities marathon in 2001. I finished in under five hours, but it was about 25 degrees cooler. If I would have ran it in last Sunday's heat, I would've been DNF before reaching the Franklin Ave. Bridge. Anyway, the runners I saw looked pretty dead by the time they hit Summit Avenue.
congrats. i participated in chicago. i was in front of most of the madness that news outlets have been broadcasting about. it was crazy out there. this was my first and perhaps my last marathon. later.

How long did you train for it? I did the toronto marathon a few days ago with < 2mn of training. Because of cycling in the summer, I only transition to running at the end of august. But needless to say it was painful, I got diarrhea and i trained pretty hard.

Careful, that may be your fatigue talking. I've thought and said that after every one. Give yourself three or four weeks and you'll likely be plotting your training and strategy for the next one :D

I'm with you on the training for running. I find coming off a nice cycling season, the running just seems to fall into place pretty easily (especially if you have had some duos or tris mixed in with the crits over the summer).

I had a huge setback. About 8 weeks before raceday I sprained my ankle real bad. Took two weeks off and then did a 20 miler with 5 weeks to go, then did 16 with three weeks to go, then ran maybe 4 miles total before raceday, so my last eight weeks of "training" were all resting. I was lucky to finish. I had wanted to finish in 4h, but then decided with all that detraining that 4h 30m was a good goal, then the weather came and that put an end to all time goals. I finished in 5h 28m.

Speaking of marathons, does anyone have a good 12-week training program?
12 weeks is possible, if you are already logging 35-40 miles per week!

I know it's possible. I'm doing a half this Sunday, so the training for that helps me for a full.
I am looking for a decent training program for a 12 week full. If anyone has one, let me know. I've run across a few, but just want a few more so I have a better array from which to choose.
^^^^ there are not really any 12 week training programs for marathons. most "experts" feel that 16 to 18 weeks of training is necessary. of course, you should be logging at least 25 miles a week before starting that 16 to 18 week plan.
you dont state what you training for the half consisted of, but i am guessing you are following a plan and have a decent base already. i would just grab a plan from Hal Higdon's site and modify it to meet your needs. just use the plan as an outline and adjust it to meet your needs. i have used his plans with great success.

Congrats.... on hitting superior VO2. :D
Did anyone catch the NOVA: marathon challenge, where they do 40week training for the boston marathon.
At the beginning only 1 guy had superior VO2 and everyone else had poor to excellent, by the 20th week everyone had superior VO2 except for 1 lady who went from poor to excellent. The suprise was only 1 person who was 75lbs overweight lost weight (40lbs) from all that training, everyone else just lowered their bodyfat%.
^^^^ i missed that and really wanted to TiVo it. dang it all to heck. on you second point i find that when i am running more i tend to build more muscle all over then when primarily riding. cycling seems to really lean me up though. later.

Congrats, marathons are tough. Twin Cities was always on my hit list, just started running again so maybe some day, (nest year?) I can do TC.
