I'm going to look at a older benotto frame the owner doesn't know much about it. The only picture he sent me shows it has been repainted with no decals he says it has a cinelli bb with an heart cut out. I thought heart cut outs were used by de rosa frames. It does have campy dropouts. If anyone has info on benotto frames I would appreicate it. What tubing did they use on their track frames I thought SL. Are there any tells to know what tubing it is ? Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Gregg

the sticker will tell you what tubing it is...if it's there
most benottos were made in mexico
doubt it has a cinelli BB lug
i think mine is columbus thron tubing
anyway they have a bad reputation of breaking...crappy brazing jobs on teh mexican frames.
but pretty sweet angles and nice riding frames until they break

That's partly true. Only newer Benotto's were made in Mexico and have a spotty rep. Older, Italian made ones were solid as could be. Moser won many races on a Benotto.

A Cinelli bottom bracket isn't really indicative of anything. Lots of builders used them. Just the way a few companies have used heart cut-outs. Not even all De Rosa's had heart cut-outs. I know mine didn't. The type of Columbus tubing used would give you a better idea of the year of manufacture. Columbus SL was used in the late 70's up until around '86 at which point SLX became the preferred choice for many builders. Without the decal, I'm not sure how you would be able to verify it. Serial number?

Thanks for all the info. What would be a good price to pay if in good shape ? Like I said it looks like SL tubing.

if its from portland i just looked at it today. we were going to buy it and part it out but the frame is pretty badly painted with spray paint. has bubbles and such. aerospokes are sprayed as well and there is spray paint inside the hubs. i dont know. overall it wasnt worth the 800 it to us. pretty used

My old Benotto had the heart cutout and campy dropouts, but it was a road model. I would ask the C&V forum, they know a lot more about those things.
