this bike is on indefinite loan to me from a friend. just picked it up a few days ago and i think i am catching the cycling bug.

anyone know what year it is and how much it might be worth?

my friend wants to sell it to me as it's a bit too big for him but he hasn't said for sure how much he wants (he's thinking in the $300-$350 range). i think he wants me to just make him an offer if i decide i like it (which i think i do).

at the very least i'm going to ride it until he demands that i return it to him. ;)

if you end up really liking the bike then give it back im sure you'll be sorry

and i have no idea how much its worth. id start with $100 and see how he reacts.

This bike was probably worth less than $500 brand new. But it does appear to be in excellent shape.

the frame is a good (though heavy) chromoly frame, very suitable for rough street riding or messengering. prolly 2001.

for the most part, the componentry is crap, though, strangely, the handlebars are nice.

so, figure $200 for the frame and $100 for throwaway parts, and i'd say $300 is a good deal.

but, for cripes sake, get rid of that silly faux brake thing.

haha, "silly faux brake thing" I like your terminology. I think it has functional value as an extra hand position though. I find holding on to them aero levers is good on the ascents.

Three ended auctions on Ebay for BRAND NEW 2006 Fuji tracks ended at $330 (54cm), $272 (61cm), and $224 (56cm). I wouldn't pay more than $200 for it, and would try less first. I have one of the same yellow/red ones I bought off ebay last winter. I payed way to much for the frame/fork/headset/seatpost/stem ($200), but mine was the 64cm size they haven't made in many years.

my friend put those brakes on for me since i haven't been on a bike for a number of years and i've never ridden a fixed gear before. we both decided that it was probably the safe way to go. i definitely like having the hoods there since it provides me an extra hand position.

good point. however, this one went for $510. maybe because of the size (49cm)?

how exactly can you tell that the handlebars are nice, or am i missing the sarcasm? fwiw, they are kore 6061 bars.

i'm pretty sure i am going to need a shorter stem if this bike has any chance of being a keeper for me (i feel i'm doing the superman thing). i think i need one at least 3-4cm shorter. too bad i don't have any stems lying around to try out. :(

this is in no way negative of what people have said before, but i think you should remember to think of him as a friend who has loaned you his bike for a while. this isn't ebay where you are trying to get the best deal possible. i think that a good friend would give him $250

heh, i most certainly would keep it on there. especially since we pulled the brake and levers off my brother's 80's panasonic road bike. not to mention i don't exactly trust myself riding a fixed gear safely without one. at least not yet anyway.

yeah, good point. it's good to keep things in perspective. i think i would be totally content paying $250-300 if a shorter stem ends up helping with the fit.

I'll trade you my 2006 Fuji Track for it! You can go here and learn more about it (you have to navigate to the bikes section then select Track): http://www.fujibikes.com/2001/usa/html/main/frameset.htm

On a side note, why has Fuji used that same horrible stem for the past 6 years? finally they changed it with the '08

I paid less than $500 for the same bike brand new.

Well, I finally bought it. I picked up a generic QBP threadless stem adapter and a cheap-o Dimensions 80mm stem for $30 from my LBS and the fit is feeling pretty good. I ended up giving my friend $300 for it. He threw in a new Surly 17t cog. I'm pretty happy with it and I'm loving the ketchup and mustard look more and more.

well, i've made a couple changes since i first got it. i'm now running a 17t in the rear, selle italia slr gel flow saddle, dimensions 80mm stem along with threaded to threadless adapter, and crank brothers candy sl pedals.

i'd like to get a silver crankset and stem as well as white bar tape but that crap is gonna have to wait until my finances recover some from the road bike i'm currently building.

here's the latest pic.

That's a 2003 frame. I just a used one on eBay for a little over $200. I paid too much, but it's hard to find bikes in my size (49cm) and I liked the colors. If the frame you're talking about is in good condition, I'd think it was worth between $175 and $200.

i already bought it from my friend for $300, the complete bike. btw, i'm pretty sure it's a 2001.

just finished putting on some gator skins, my first ever tire change. it went pretty slow but i finally got it done. one quirky thing, though. the tires are directional and have an arrow indicating which direction they should rotate. however, the tire labels/branding are reversed from one another. i decided to keep the direction going the proper way and have the mismatched labels on each side. anyone else ever run into that?

I think that I really liked the blue one that had the crowned fork.

On a side note I lived next to this crazy ex messenger guy that I think was dealing with the messenger version of post traumatic stress syndrome that tried to sell me one of those yellow and red fuji tracks that he had just thrashed and rewelded the chainstays and trackends back on numerous times.
