Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Great Frame, dnt know much about it

i just recently bought this Prsche track frame, i know its from the 70's, but i would like to know some history behind it. does anybody have any clues??? you have any ideas for the build of it??

Start with the usual stuff, Like bike parts. After that you should ride it....

Porsche never designed track frames, that is a re-painted frame with some Porsche decals stuck on it. Nevertheless, it looks like it could be a decent frame, you may have an easier time finding answers in the Classics and Vintage section, the guys over there know their stuff and may recognize the build from the distinctive seat-stays or the serial number that is on the track ends. Link to the auction, the photos you have are not good enough to see anything.

obviously start with the bike parts, i did jst buy it so of course i Will ride it....what i meant by "ideas" is what stuff to throw on, meaning ideas for fork, seat, ect........i jst wanted to hear ideas from someone elses perspective.

i saw that frame. i wanted it so bad. even if it's not authentic, it's still guard's red with the right decals. hope it works for you.

do it up with some period correct components. but if you do not rock a selle italia "turbo" saddle, i will come to where you live and smack you. if there ever was a frame that NEEDED the turbo saddle, it's this one!

Wow, don't know what to say about this. It is a bike frame for sure. Absolutely not made by Porsche. It might be Italian, but I'm not too sure about that claim either. None of the lugs are stamped, so they aren't Cinelli or Campy lugs. The fact that the fork ends aren't stamped with anything but a high serial number, and that the serial number is off kilter speaks volumes. As does the condition of those fork ends. As the fork ends don't even have a Shimano or Suntour stamp, my guess is that this frame is either a low to mid end Japanese or Italian frame from the 1970's or 1980's. It is very heavily used, and the respray wasn't done with a lot of love. The Porsche stickers are of course fake. If I were you, I'd have a decent bike shop check this out and align it before you ride it. You probably paid about twice what this frame was worth, and I recommend you learn from that mistake. As for the gaudy and fake stickers that advertise where you got your bike from and how much you over paid for it. I'd remove them, don't be "that guy".

Sh*t, looks like those stickers are under the clear coat. Time to look for something to cover them up with. I'm sorry if I'm coming off as harsh. You probably just aren't old enough yet to have learned this very hard lesson before. But now you've learned it, so brush yourself off and enjoy riding. Just make sure never to court the really bad karma of selling this bike to the next buyer as a Porsche item.


PS- the first (Guards) red flag should have been the off center "N" in the fake Porsche Design stickers.

+ Of course your location is brooklyn,, no offense...ha..., and no offense was taken on my part about what you had to say...Cheers thanks for giving me the breakdown on the frame..i was drawn to the crown work on the frame to tell you the truth before the porsche decals..what could i put over the decals....? besides stickers...i had shown the bike to some friends at this bike shop imartin and they thought the frame wasnt toooo heavily used,,,, i'll be honest you do have me a bit worried about the life left and condition of this bike.

on second thought, i'm not sure if that IS guard's red. it's red (duh) but the shade seems wrong. got any better, clearer pictures? mostly for my curiosity.

i once considered (for about an hour) putting some RS decals on my bike as a joke, but my frame is the wrong color.

What you need to do is have a shop put it up on an alignment jig before you build it up. That, how much it flexes, and looking at stress points will tell you a lot.

I'd keep the Porsche stickers on there. After all, if Porsche never made track frames, then yours will be the only one.

I wouldn't spend a fortune building it up. Since it looks pretty old (those fork ends remind me of old English track bikes), I'd try and use old parts so nothing is too shiny and overstating. I would definitely try and make the frame the centerpiece. No Phils, no D-A, no 75's... just some old road cranks, a chrome fork from bikeworks or whoever else sells them, and some silver formula's laced to standard (not deep-V) rims. That would be a tight bike.

+ i really dig your idea, but i thought it would look like and old porsche in all silver and red, i wanted to get polished or chrome deep v's, jst cause it would accent the frame. i agree with making the frame the center piece, meaning no red on the bike but the frame. you cant deny that PHILs with that lil red logo would NOT look good on this bike.!!

looks almost exactly like this old Paris-Sport (or Ets Frassye, same frame) i have.

mine has a french bb though.
