I have a cheapie ebike that I bought locally. It is a lot of fun, though it is not a powerhorse by any means. I was initially going to modify a common bike I have by putting a motor on the front wheel and using chain or belt to drive the front wheel. Since I have my new ebike I have been giving people rides on the rear and discovered that when someone is sitting on the rear of my present ebike - there is no suspension on the rear - there is less steering control up front. The additional weight on the rear lifts the front up just a little.

If my rear had a suspension - especially shocks - would this be eliminated? I am concerned about this modification because the result of the mod will be a bike that goes considerably faster than the cheapie ebike I am riding now.

i have a front hub motor on a basic downhill bike and when i upgrade i am going to go for a mid mount motor that drives the front cogs and uses the bikes own gearing system. i have already had a set of forks fail due to the axle on my hub motor being too large for the gap and a lot of torque under load. also my wheel came with a weak rim.
I figure that i the bike will retain all of its original strength and speed and range will be increased and i will also be able to have disc on the front.
if you have rear suspension i can not see how you would carry a passenger on the back..........
