I got my roadbike out the otherday and ended up having to ride it offroad for a while and i think i will use it offroad all the time now because i found it more challenging, especialy on the technical parts. The thin tyres get punctures easier but its worth the hassle because when you hit patches of road here and there you have a slight edge over the mountainbikers.

I've had mine off road many times, I just leave the Zipps at home on those days. It puts a huge smile on my face every time, especially when I see the looks on the people's face that I pass (generally going the opposite direction).

I saw it done in a race, it was half road, half trail. most people grabbed they're hardtail XC bike, probably used less aggressive tires, but there were the few who had a road bike. The winner was actually riding a road bike, but I'm not sure how much it contributed to his success.

I used to do it all the time and never got that many flats. I'd show up for a ride, and they'd say "We're going on the TRAILS! You can't ride THAT bike!

Watch me. :D

Oh... and didn't you run over your road bike with your SUV????

I'd rather ride my hardtail, and not mess up my road stuff.

Are you sure that wasn't a cyclocross bike?

Not 100%, but I guess they could've been. There were quite a few there (huge race), so you never know, maybe there was a road bike there. Oh well, they did have skinny tires and drop bars, so it looks the same, and when your watching TV but not really paying attention...
