Good luck guys. Hopefully it isn't too bad on top of old Baldy. If it is snow, it should be spectacularly beautiful.

Take pics of if you go up there! And be careful out there. It's raining pretty steady in Sherman Oaks right now.

It's pretty wet here in Pasadena, too. I'm out, too, I think, is anyone still planning on going?

I'm heading out that way, don't want anyone riding alone that may show up.

WhiteCarbonDude and I had a nice ride. Ran into Vertical Bob and Bill and rode with them for a while, too.

So, you did it?

John, if ever there was a day that you would NOT have wanted me around...it was today. :o

Oh jeez, I hadn't ridden much in what, 3 weeks? I was pretty slow.

We found another restaurant opened near the lifts and had a light breakfast and hot chocolate and were entertained by the local AA rep doing shots at 10 am. Decent biscuits and gravy...

You are NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER slow.

Don't try to sand bag, mister, as I won't have it. :p

Was it cold? Windy? Beautiful? Did Vertical Bob look cute? :D

I did 4 at one point. Folks, 12/27's just allow you the ride slower.

Cold, yes, no wind at all. Very Beautiful. Bob was Bob.

If you did 4mph, that means I would have "fallen over" at that point.

And I'll interpret that as Bob was cute. :p

John, great ride! Nice to see Bob out there. Anyways, I wanted to do the whole ride but we turned around when we saw Bob and I went back to the lifts, so I got in my 8000ft for the day but only 33 miles:( 46 if you count the downhill. Too bad Rick didn't come it was a great day up on Mt. Baldy.

Well here are my sad stats for the day:

Maybe next time I could add 39/East Fork/GMR/GRR/ski lifts for a 12000+ft day. John? Rick? You in?

At least some of us got in a good ride today under less than perfect conditions. Hey it's winter in the mountains, be prepared. FYI you burn more calories when it's cold. The simple fact is, you heat every breath of cold air to body temp;)

Yeah, I wimped out. When the alarm went off Jackie said, "It's raining."
I said, "I'm going back to sleep."

And I did, and she did. Then when we woke up we had all kinds of fun in bed and for a long time I didn't even think about cycling!

So today I rode from Glendora up to The Village, had a wonderful cinnamon bun with two cups of coffee, and rode back down. Saw lots of other riders up there, but only one I knew (Dr. Jerry).

Thought about bringing a cinnamon bun back down the mountain for M.E. (or Linda) but thought better of it. Maybe she was up there later and got to eat it anyway. Or maybe earlier, since there were lots of spaces where wonderful cinnamon buns used to be, by the time mine was removed.

Yeah, I had the lovely young waitress heat up my cinnamon bun. It was really, really good!

No, wait, really . . . I came to this forum pre-corrupted. Don't worry, you all didn't do it!

Well, unless you want to take credit, in which case . . . sure! Why not?

Hi WhiteCarbonDude,
I have a question that I hope you can answer. What is the vertical gain if I climb Hwy 39/East Fork/GMR to the ridge? And what is the vertical gain from there across GRR to Mt. Baldy Village?
Thanks!

If you start at Encanto or the bottom of 39 you will gain about 5100 feet by the time you reach the village. I don't know how much of it is on GRR.

Thanks guys! This time of year I do the East Fork loop 2-3 times a week and ususally make it across to Baldy one of those times. I don't strive for a certain amount of vertical feet each week, I have just been curious about what I have been getting.

Sorry I didn't reply but I was out of town, but it sounds like Big John and Bob have already taken care of you. Besides they are the Masters and I am but a student. I am studying the fine art of Verticalism and hope to some day achive High Verticalness. I may have the fancy graphs and such but they have it etched in their brains.
