Southern California - Baldy - Saturday October 13th

I'm probably going to do Baldy on Saturday starting from the intersection of Mt Baldy Rd & Mills Ave in Claremont (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=N+Mills+Ave+%26+Mt+Baldy+Rd,+Claremont,+CA+91711&sll=34.138283,-118.072211&sspn=0.007655,0.016823&ie=UTF8&z=17&iwloc=addr&om=1). The idea is to go to the lift (about 13 miles or so from the start), go back to the village for a Cinnamon Roll :o , head over GRR, descend GMR, and then either return via Foothill/Baseline, or possibly loop back up Hwy 39 to East Fork, Little GMR, GRR, and then back down Baldy. Would anyone be interested in joining me?

Sunrise is about 7 am, so I figure a 7:30 start would be good (arrive between 7 and 7:15).

Well, that means I have no choice either. :p But shorter route, for sure. If it's just Happy and me cutting it short, I know the way. ;) (i.e. don't let us stop you guys from looping all over that mountain if you so wish!)

Only problem with Sunday is there is a HUGE ride already scheduled. I am sure the ride organizer will have cinnamon buns.

I've been down Baldy Road but never gone up. I think I'm in on this ride, but the short route. :D

It's true. Last Saturday I was expecting that they'd be open but they were still closed (it was around 10:30 when we got there). It was freezing too, I only had arm warmers on and expected it to warm up but it never really did until we were already at the bottom. There's nothing like descending from the ski-lifts and having numb fingers from all that cold air!

It is easy to find this lot.. take the 210 east from Pasadena.. 30 miles approx.. exit Baseline Road.. make a left turn.. you are now on Baseline.. 2nd light approx 3/4 mile is mills rd.. right turn.. you are now going towards the mountains.. 1 mile and there will be a stop sign. go through the stop sign and the lot is on the immediate right side..

Yeah, I'm making sure they know that we aren't going up GMR, that we're starting the ascent going up the Baldy side, not GMR. It's 17 miles or so from Encanto to Mills/Mt Baldy Rd.

I've been thinking of climbing 39 past Crystal Lake to A.C. maybe Dawson on Saturday from Encanto. It's a great time of the year to go up there. The exposed road means warmth. Probably start at 8am.

Oh, good, George! :) We're going to have a good group. Of course, I'll be waving at all of your backs as you get tinier and tinier up the hill, but a good group nonetheless.

I was just going to ride to the start from Encanto. That way I can do the city part in the morning while everyone is sleeping rather than deal with the traffic after the city awakes. I was just going to take Foothill/Baseline. I was thinking of leaving at 6:30.

Well, when whispered to you in the back of your Volvo...maybe.:rolleyes: But this is a daytime event at which I'm expected and with all the "I'm starting at Encantos..." and "I'm starting at 6:30s..." and "You're not getting any buns until 11:00s..." - I'm not sure what, when, where or if I'm getting a piece of buns! :D
