Mountain Biking - clicking in the front wheel

I get this clicking noise when I make a turn while leaning. It sounds like its a spoke, has anyone had this happen to them? I recently fell and i also took it to my LBS to get my derailleur hanger fixed. any ideas?

Sounds like your bearings. What hub are you using? Sounds like out of round bearing race, dry bearings or loose bearing cone. Does your wheel have any side-to-side play?

I have a stock 08 rockhopper w/ vbrakes. I bought it 1 month ago too.

Are you asking what is a hub? The center part of the wheel where the axle is.

so i should lube the hubs? Man, I guess my LBS doesn't do shiet. I had them tune it too. Lazy LBS for the lose.

According to Specialized your bike has ball/cone type hubs. I would take the bike back to where you bought it and ask them to tighten the front wheel bearings.

no just take out the bearings clean and regrease, probably aswell buying new bearings(will cost you buttons) and proper(someone can correct me if i'm wrong) lithium grease i think... also check that there is no pitting in the cones(basically the bearing are off align and cause damage inside the cone, your wheel will still work it'll just be rough, depending on how bad it is and get rougher), pitting inside the actual hub tends to mean new hub if it's really bad....i'd guess the cones could be replaced if it was just them...

it's not a hard thing to do, i done it after watching my brother do it once, but i did have the advantage of watching him first...

you'll need the right spanners as well, can't mind the size, but they tend to need to be thin..

edit: a magnetic screwdriver is good for getting bearings out, that can be awkward.

NO. You probably do not need to rebuild the entire damn hub. Just tighten it. If you don't know how or dont have the tools, have your LBS do it. It takes less than 5 minutes.

If he's been riding the entire damn hub that's loose for a while there will be dirt inside it and a relubing of the entire damn hub will be a sensible thing to do. damn.

and ps takes about 20 seconds to tighten a damn hub..

Okay, i took out the front wheel and check out the hub. When i spin the center piece, it goes one direction. If it were to be loose, it would or could go the opposite way, correct? I do not get any wheel play at all during biking. I just get this sound that sounds like the spokes are stretching or something.

Do you notice it when you are rolling slow? I had a rim spacer loose in my rim and it made a sound like that. To check it, wiggle the wheel back and forth on the bike and you'll hear it . If it does, you have to narrow it down to where it is on your rim and then take your tire off and rim tape and look between the spoke holes and you'll see it. Take a little super glue and squirt it through the spoke hole. Be careful to not get it on the spoke nipples.
