Are shock pumps any different than floor pumps? Can a floor pump be used for adding air to front fork shocks?

Shock pumps add air at a lower rate so you don't blow up your squisher.
Small volume, high pressure.

Yeah, I learned the hard way. It would take forever to pump a tire with a shock pump.

You can get a track pump (like a Silca Super-Pista) that will generate the pressures you need; but it also creates way more air volume than you want to inflate a shock. Also, the shock's Shraeder valve core is usually embedded differently inside the stem than a tire's is.
I toyed with this "kill-two-birds-with-one-pump" idea once before good sense prevailed and I just bought a shock pump.

As mentioned previously,
floor pump = high volume
shock pump = low volume, & capable of higher pressures (some as high as 300 psi)
I'm not sure if the friction-grip heads of a typical floor pump can secure itself around a shock valve since the valves are quite short.
A shock pump gives better and more accurate pressure control. Also, a shock pump allows you to bleed down the pressure at fairly small increments for more precision.
