Went into REI yesterday and they have their Fall sale going on. They had the Randonee on sale for $794. I think that is a heck of a deal. I bought a Volpe within the past week. If I had know the Randonee was going to be on sale at that price within the week I might have changed my decision. Just thought I would pass along the info for anyone in the purchasing mode right now.

Are you sure this was a new '07 bike? I just looked on thier website and it isn't listed as on sale. I'm curious as I just bought mine for full price.

The Randonee isn't marked down at the REI near my house yet, either. But it's possible. Different stores have different stock on hand and probably price accordingly. I think that bike is a particularly good deal at its regular price anyway. Odd sizes and such are often marked down. I almost bought a Novara roadie about this time last year because of the price, but it was just a little too big. They're always like that, or just a hair too small for me.

I'll be honest in that I did not look closely at the year model. It is possible that it was an '06 model. The main reason it caught my eye was that it was a size 58cm which is the size I would need. The REI I saw it in is the Dallas store.

Someone should snap that up. It sounds like a great deal.

A Randonee for less than $800? That's oustanding. Current price is $949.

REI puts out 30% off coupons for members a couple times a year. You can use these coupons on the Novara bikes. My friend got a Randonee for $799 with such a coupon - great deal on a nice bike.

If the Randonee isn't listed on the REI website it just means they have no stock at the warehouse currently. They'll probably not see 2008 bikes for sometime. I know I tried to get a friend a Randonee last year through the website and it took forever for REI to get the 2007s in - they kept giving me one date after another and missed the mark by months.

If you do need a Randonee right away and the store near you doesn't have one - call around and see if another store does then ask them to ship it to your local store.

I like REI and their bikes are a good value - you just have to learn how to "navigate" their system effectively if you want a particularly good deal.

I bought a left over Randonee and love it. If you call the nice folks at REI they will give you a 15% coupon over the phone. Talk about a deal.

I don't know if the seller will ship, but here is a pretty good deal on a used one. He's came down once already, so he might be willing to deal. I might be persuaded to pick up and ship for someone of they are interested.

FYI--REI's website now shows all sizes of Randonees in stock (as of 10-13), but not marked down--still holding at $949.

They won't be marked down. You need to use a coupon to get the lower pricing. REI usually has two 30% off coupons for members and someone posted above that you can get a 15% coupon just by asking on the phone - I think I heard about that for new members joining they get 15%.

I believe the twice (sometimes three times) a year coupons are only 20% off, I know that is how I got my randonee. I ended up paying around 760 for it, plus I used my wifes 20% off for a very nice headlight for it. I've put almost 500 miles on it and I am very happy with the bike.

The key is using the 20% off coupon with your dividend. We got two Randonees for $1300 that way. An outstanding deal.

And after riding 1000 miles, my wife still couldn't get the right fit with hers. So she took it back.

REI is great.

Sure - I might have the 30% wrong. It has been a while since I used the annual coupons and my memory fades pretty fast these days....

Great deal either way....:D
