Wheel and Sprocket last week shipped me some Weinnman DP-18's ........ I ordered Velocity Deep V's , i was not pleased. But they are paying for the return shipping and getting the proper ones out to me with out question.

They seem like they are nice to work with, more than willing to own up on their mistakes.

I ordered the Deep V's right when the big post about cheap Weinmanns going up on to ebay and a bunch of people we going for them.

I received the box early friday morning, opened it to expect my Deep V's to be glistening before my eyes and I saw Blue, and i was like "hmm sent me the wrong color" pulled one out and I was WTF??!?!

besides wanting my proper wheels (which were $80 more, made in USA , not china) , i wanted to get them back to the store because so many people were scrambling for them, i didn't want someone to miss out, since some colors were already sold out.

in my opinion i didn't really care much for the DP-18's when i pulled them out, finish wasn't to great and a few nic's in the finish. Although $80's is a decent amount of money, i would reconmend the deep v's over the DP-18's .
Even the un-machined brake surface had a large drop off to the rest of the rims and didn't look too great and the finish around the nipples for the spokes wasn't so hot.
If you were getting the DP-18's get the machined brake surfaces, it would look a lot more clean.

safe to say, someone ordered some DP-18's and got a luckey surprize of red anodized deep v's . Glad some one at least profited.

Try to avoid Bells Bike Shop. I purchased a set of Deep V's from them Sept 22 and have yet to see them, I e-mailed a couple times with no responses and wasn't told that my wheels had even shipped. USPS says they were eventually "picked up" on Wed(10/3) but I'm still waiting; They also are supposed to be coming 2-3 day Priority Mail.

My order could be delayed for various reasons so if you were to order from them you might have better luck.

EDIT: finally received them today(10/9).

Bells has a prob. with shipping I ordered a full deep v for my brother but before that I bought two white deep v's for myself. This was in the middle of last month. And my brothers wheels came in first, three weeks late. I have yet to see my white rims.

They needed to be trued. And three nipples split in half, in the process at my lbs.

I've bought from wheelandsprocket on multiple occasions - they are prone to mistakes here and there (they sent me the wrong size derailleur clamp on one occasion; that was frustrating) but in every time they are very willing to own up to mistakes and correct the problem as best as they can. I generally like them.

Loud pinging spokes means that the wheels were built very poorly. The spokes were twisted and all those pinging noises you heard were your spokes untwisting and loosing tension. Learn how to true and tension spokes (its not hard, but you need to read some instruction), and it shouldn't matter where you buy your wheels from because you can correct for the ****ty build.

Bells came in a really really nice package, with plastic over the painted parts of the rims and hub protectors.

The rims however aren't so nice...the biggest problem being the no so pretty seams that they try to hide under the stickers.

Yes. That is a very accurate statement. Good advice, kids.

I ordered some Deep V's from Bells Bike shop. They shipped them within two days of purchase (usps tracking number), but they took almost 4 weeks to arrive. The packaging was so so, one of the hubs scratched the other. There was a small gouge in one rim too, not sure if it was packaging or mishandling at the shop. Mine are pinging a bit, but its only been a few days.

They offered me 10% off my next purchase due to the problems.

edit: email response was outstanding for me. I emailed over 20 times I bet and got very fast and freindly responses to every one. Steve is a great guy to deal with.

it's possible, but not likely, that they live some place where there are a lot of really terrible package carrier places inbetween them and most of the population. with that many bad experiences, there has to be some sort of issue.

my theory, many ebayers just purchase from some distributor (third party) and only collect the money and have nothing at all to do with the shipping and that's why there's no communication! not accusing bell's, but can you really be sure??

There isn't any way to make a good looking rim joint unless you weld it and then machine it. The rim joint is always going to be slightly imperfect without this. It's perfectly normal. If you are trying to purchase a non-machined type rim, you have to expect a slight joint. If you feel its not made properly or unsafe to use, that's a warranty issue and should be treated as such.

glue the stickers back on again and forgettaboutit.

The stickers are uglier than the seams.
They're not welded so its not a big deal, it just isn't pretty.

A few days later no more pinging. Pinging is not uncommon with newly built wheels though. To be expected to some extent really.

Like I said though, customer support was great for me.
