Francesca and our racing group used to train together in SF's GGP and did distance rides every weekend up north just before she went to the Nationals and the group went on their own.

Somewhere I have a Bicycling magazine with Rebecca Twigg on the front cover. There is another guy, Nikola Frac, I don't think he made it really big but used to do all the local races and raced in the Veteran catagory in the 70's. Read he did the hour time trials in his 80's so he still must be riding.

I saw Twigg's, then, future husband, Mark Whited somewhere on that list. Wonder what ever happened to him?

I was actually at that race, as a spectator . . . George Mount was racing there (don't think he's mentioned above) as was Wayne Stetina (who won the Sr. Mens race) and Jim Ochowicz (yes, Och was racing!).

I still remember the sprint finish because I thought Wayne Stetina was in way too big a gear for the sprint. But I was wrong, and he turned it very well, for a close win. I met Wayne probably 15 years later, and when I mentioned that to him he smiled (obviously remembering that day!) and said, "My legs were very tired at the end of that race, and I knew I couldn't spin a smaller gear!"

There were at least a couple of Stetina siblings from Central Indiana who were highly successful in national-level road racing.
One of the Stetina brothers demonstrated SIS as a Shimano rep in a display/tent at the Wheat Thins Criterium in downtown Atlanta in the summer of '85 or '86. First time I ever saw indexed shifting.
