Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Checking in! I am about 6 months into cycling now and can only think about heart rates, tire pressure, grades, and hip flexors. I only have Mr. Armstrong to thank for that (followed by ULLE!!!!), the good ol' days.

Hello enjoi07, so what kind of bike are you riding if you have Lance to blame?
And where?
Welcome to BF!

Well, For now I have a Univega viva sport. I was searching for days on craigslist and happened upon a guy who found this bike sitting in his garage when he moved in, and the previous owner didnt want it any more. He gave it to me for $100 flat which turned out to be a great deal considering the good condition of the frame and components. Only problem is the shifters on the downtube, I really want to ride with local groups but they all have index shifters so.... Maybe I can convert my bike to have index shifters? I pretty much bought the bike thinking I would ride to work and some commuting but now im hooked and want to possibly race and definetly do high tempo group rides... my plan for now is to just keep working on pace, speed, and distance on the ol steel bike and maybe upgrade later, its just these bikes are so much money!!

That's the beauty of a vintage bike! Doesn't cost an arm and a leg, but when you are ready to upgrade (well, assuming you don't just fall in love with vintage steel) you have a far better idea of where you're going, and you'll have prepped the engine properly too!
Uh, could we see some photos of the Univega in the Classic & Vintage forum, please?
