My wife was telling me about this. I might just do it, even though that won't include her. She makes art more interesting to me with her knowledge of it, just as I make music more interesting to her.

Ya, . . . that's just across the street from Russell's. Let's see if anyone else wants to join in.:)

Crud, I have a friend who would've been all over this ride, but she's out of town this weekend.

Rob, I'm not familiar with any of these gallories, but I'm guessing that there will probably be a few with photographic work which I know you appreciate.

Do you know how to get to Fair Oaks and Union wher the Patagonia store is located?

BTW, nice BUMP Alice.

So, how was it?

The Fab Four gig in Bellflower was fun.

Hey the ride was super fun and oh-so-cultural...:D

Patagonia always raffles off the best free stuff (I never win)

I saw alot of folks I know and ran into somebody who I haven't seen in ten years...and made several new friends.

No BF peeps I don't think??

Did your daughter like the band?

There is a good reason there weren't any BF people. This might make a good pub crawl for those into pub crawls. But the only thing remotely related to cycling is the name of the sponsor. My experience riding with most of the people on this forum is that they are serious about riding, and 3 hours to do 5 miles doesn't qualify in any way, shape or form, as a ride. But that's just my opinion.

Hey did you go? I'm sorry, I would have looked for you...:)

(if I knew what you looked like)

I was really disorganized that day and barely made it myself...

What's Russells, anyway?

JustMe
10-14-07, 09:20 AM
Yes, for about a half hour. And Russell's is the land mark restaurant mid block on the east side of the street across from Patagonia. Don't tell me you frequent the area and aren't familiar with Russell's.:D

As for what I look like, my likeness is plastered in a few of the threads. And yourself?

What on earth were you expecting from something billed as an "art ride," in a smallish city where the galleries aren't very far away from one another, the ride announcement for which made it clear that ample time was to be allotted for browsing the art? Hill intervals? Laps around the Rose Bowl?

There are other ways to be "serious about riding" than to put on the Spandex uniform and hammer around suburbia for several hours with eyes fixed on the cyclocomputer. One of them is to be serious about using the bike for things like nights on the town where one might otherwise use the car.

Thanks PC for elucidating the nuances of what was being promoted, but you have confused the issue being presented. The question is not what I expected based on the OP, but; why would one expect much, if any, participation from a group of people who have predominantly expressed a preference to "put on the Spandex uniform" and undertake to improve their physical abilities beyond the norm. I'm sure, given a choice, most of the people posting on this forum would prefer not to "hammer around suburbia" as you put it, and if you look through the posts, you will see that many of these people travel substantial distances to ride in areas well beyond the confines of "suburbia", and expend significant amounts of money to do so in the process.

If you want to be serious about alternative forms of transportation, that's fine, and if you want to promote the environmental benefits of alternate forms of transportation, that's fine. But don't consider that being serious about efforts to improve one's efficiency at propelling oneself purely by one's own physical and mental effort on a 2 wheeled machine over significant distances/time.

Um, because it might be fun? I know that's a bad word to some roadies, but surely not to all of them.

Are people not allowed to like to do more than one thing on their bicycles?

Sigh. Placid, not every opinion on here contrary to yours is a direct slam or insult on, or negative comparison to how you enjoy riding or the community of riders you enjoy most. I find it interesting that a few of the Midnight Ridazz community members have come over here and post on a regular basis (a couple of them I rather like, too). But no one in this community is over on the MR website popping up here and there to reprimand those members for their opinions expressed or “starting” debates, etc. like you do.

Would you like to explain why you feel it is necessary to jump on every person here every time you feel like you have a bone to pick? Justme, a member on here who has been supportive of all types of rides, was simply pointing out why some of us were not interested in doing the Art Ride. It doesn't mean we don't like Art, or those who want to ride and look at art, or that we look down on those who wish to ride their bikes for 3 miles, socialize and pub crawl. Have at it. Members choosing not to do this ride was no insult to Alice (nor do I think she took it that way) or any other rider who did. So, why the contention?

Oh, and one last thing – how does spandex constitute a uniform? Spandex/lycra are materials used in most sports attire to help the person exercising feel more comfortable and keep moisture off the skin. So, are people at the gym taking aerobic classes wearing spandex part of our special cult or elite group? Or do they have their own uniform and are exclusive too, in your mind, simply by wearing spandex? And why aren’t you on an Aerobic Forum (I’m sure it exists) giving them grief?

Let me get this straight. Having a bone to pick with an Art Ride is OK, but having a bone to pick with someone who has a bone to pick with an Art Ride isn't OK? I didn't notice you chiding the other guy for his contentiousness, and after all, nobody asked him for his opinion either.

I'm operating under the assumption that a public Internet forum devoted to bicycles in Southern California is a place where unsolicited opinions about bicycle-related issues in Southern California are welcome. By my way of thinking, then, it's perfectly all right for JustMe to express his disdain for the Art Ride, and it's perfectly all right for me to express my disdain for his disdain. That's called "discussion," and it's the point of having a discussion forum. That said, are some animals more equal than others around here or am I missing some crucial part of the picture?

By the way, I don't understand that bit about people from the MR forums coming "over here." This isn't your Internet community, it's ours. I ride a bike in Southern California, and my BF red star is just as red as yours (and I've been registered longer). So what's that supposed to be about, hmm?

See, this is where you are being pig-headed! Gene (Justme) expressed INTEREST IN the ride. Look at the posts in the beginning of the thread and his subsequent posts to Alice, Placid! He even tried getting a group to meet at the Rose Bowl for the art ride. He didn't put the ride down one bit, nor did anyone else in this thread. He was merely explaining in ONE post (that caused your tightie-whities to get all up in there, didn't it?) why he thought some of us wouldn't join (and he was right, by the way), but none of his remark was contentious, for cry eye. Are you an adult or a teenager? You act like the later.

As for MR, if this community belongs to Midnight Ridazz, why doesn't this forum go by Midnightridazz.net? YOU are being the hypocrite, PC. This community belongs to no one, and no one has said you can't give an opinion or be here, but we shouldn't have to walk on egg shells around you either. How about expressing yourself without jumping all over members for ANY post you deem as criticism of anything YOU hold dear. And let me remind you of how you taunt us for our "spandex uniforms" (never did answer my question on that, now did ya?) and our "roadie" ways. You seem to think it perfectly acceptable to behave like that, but then you cry wolf and claim us to be denying you an opportunity to be an "equal animal."

Grow up!

Ours, as in "yours and mine." Even if the general context didn't make it clear (and I believe it did), the very next sentence would have clarified it for you, had you actually read and thought about it rather than leaping for the "Reply With Quote" link.
