Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Black Long Reach Brakes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am having trouble locating a pair of black long reach brake calipers for my IRO Jamie Roy. I have been all over Ebay, Amazon and every bike shop I could find a link to. I know Tektro makes them, but I can't find any. Anybody got any ideas?

I used to see them on Nashbar all the time. I'm sure you already checked there though.
See if you can find a model number and look them up on froogle.

nashbar has their own long reach brakes, i would say they are comparable to the tektro's
i've used the tektro's on my jamie roy and i didn't like them
also, if you're only running a front brake, the front isn't long reach, only the rear is ... on the jamie roy
$25 for the pair
Actually, the long reach may almost be too short for the Jamie Roy with the aluminum fork. Measuring it, a 57mm reach is just going to work. The rear is in the low 50mms. I want to run both front and rear. Nashbar only sells silver long reach.
Froogle, now Google Product Search, didn't turn one up either.
Sad thing is there was a pair on Ebay right before I got the bike, but I did not want to buy anything until I measured. IRO has been horrible at returning emails and so I did not want to mess with asking them.

Check Harris. They have great brake options.

I had a similar problem for my Steamroller project. I bought a complete bike only after I realised I couldn't get just the frameset here in Australia. I've stripped everything off it including the long reach dp calipers and intending it back up as black as possible.
I was unable to find any local aussie resellers or distributors for Tektro, despite them listing what I wanted on their website. Someone suggested pulling apart the brakes I had from the complete bike and having the three main parts of the caliper armatures anodized. This I did, and taking along plain KALLOY seatpost, headstem, spacers etc I got all done for $AUD 40 and I'm quite happy with the plain black and now brandless brakes.
Ask at one of your LBS - especially one that might specialize in building up custom BMXs if they can recommend any anodizing services in your neck of the woods.
If you go this route and purchase some silver calipers first - I would recommend taking a few before digital photos before disassembly so you can easily use them for reference for reassembly. You will need to strip everything from the main armature parts that isn't aluminium. including all steel screws, bolts and any tinsy plastic bushings.

Top of hte page 57mm+ reach. There's no way that's not enough. Why the hell does a modern frame like the Jamie Roy need long reaches? Clearance for fenders? Or are you running different size wheels?

Evidently they give you clearance for fenders or much larger tires. Short reach will not work. I tried with Ultegra, just to be sure. I can find silver ones, but not black. The 49-59, or 47-57, will work.
I can't find any Cane Creek either. Or any brand in black.
The anodization sounds possible, but I may just get some silver for now and wait.
Weird, Tektro and others list the damn things on their websites, but nobody carries them and they don't sell directly! I thought the purpose of making bike parts is to exchange them for my money. I must need to go to business school. Evidently it is profitable to not sell stuff.

I am looking for black calipers. That's the black that's not silver. The other black. I've been through Google product search for 50 pages. None. Thanks, however.
Here's a pair of black long reaches.

I found them a few hours ago. I also finally got in touch with IRO- back from vacation. They have some as well.
Thanks for all the help! I should be styling shortly.
