Touring - Looking for a Double Century in WI

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Does anyone know of a Double Century held in Wisconsin? I'd like to do one this fall or next year.

Have you checked into any local bicycle clubs in your area? I'm affiliated with a bike club in the Chicago area and we do a double century around the third week of June. Another alternative is to ride a Brevet. The Great Lakes Randonneurs has a 300K-186mi scheduled on May 15th. The ride takes place in Delavan, WI. Here are two links you might find of interest.

Hope this information helps.

The closest I can find is Rochester, Minnesota. They do a full brevet series, 200,300,400,600k.
The Regional Brevet Administrator is Martin Fahie. I have his email address if you want to contact him.

Im looking at several sites that compile rides and I have yet to find one. I did not see one last year and it is still a bit early for a lot of rides to be posted this year.
Ok This may sound dumb, but what is a brevet?
I followed the links above and found a 400K (JUNE 5th) and a 600K (JUNE 26th). The May 15th is a 300K in Sharon WI. These cannot be single day rides...

They are.
A brevet is a timed cycle tour. There are a couple of threads about randonneuring/brevets over in the touring folder. Also see http://www.rusa.org for more information.

ok now I'm excited!
I have a 5200 road bike, but would be willing to buy a Trek 520 touring bike if it would make the trip more pleasent.
What are your thoughts?
And yes i already read the other threads about modifying a road bike.

In early March, Chicago bikewinter will be riding about 100 miles to Milwaukee on a Friday. That Saturday, Milw bikewinter and Chicago Bikewinter will ride about 100 miles back to Chicago. That Sunday, the Milw bikewinter will ride back to Milw, ~100 miles.
Check www.bikewinter.com for details. It's free and unsupported. I may do the C-W-C route.
Cheers
Larry
