campagnolo STRADA 170

hi members,

I have here a chainset of campagnolo...I think early '70's. On the back of the arms you see " 170 STRADA ".
Is there somebody who knows something more of the year of this crankset? Thanks, CC65

Probably circa 1968-1972, but there were earlier variants of the 144 bcd cranks (assuming they're 144 bcd). Tough to nail it down any more than that window.

If you're planning on using or selling these check for hairline cracks around the edges of "joint" where the 5 arms extend from the center.

Check for one of the following on the back as well:

- From 1958 - 1972 Record crank arms were not dated on their back side
- From 1973 - 1979 the year of crank manufacture is the last digit in a diamond
- From 1980 - 1984 the year of crank manufacture is the last digit in a circle
- "11" in a rectangle means 1985, "22" means 1986, and "33" means 1987

If yours does not have a number inside the diamond or circle you've got a pre-72.

Hi,
thanks for the information. You're right. I see on the rear changer that he's from 1970.
regards,
CC65

No, there was a different secret code for RDs; you need to give someone at the bike shop the "Campy handshake" to find out what it was.

Jusk kidding!

170 is probably the length of the crank...

Strada means street use (ie two chainrings) in contrast to Pista or Corsa which mean track use (ie one ring only).
