General Cycling Discussion - Ideas for getting cheap/free bar plugs?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm looking for a couple sets of cheap plastic handlebar plugs. I'm prototyping a new bike 'thing' and i know i won't get it right the first try. If anyone has tips on where i could beg, borrow, or steal a few sets that are in reasonably usable condition I'd appreciate it.

If there is a difference between road and mtb, i need plugs for MTB style bars, but really price is the major consideration. The closer to free it is, the closer it is to my price range.

Cham-pag-né corks are good too. Squeeze them down with a pair of pliers and knock them in place.

I wish I could take credit but I stole the idea from that deep font of Retro-Grouchiness, The Rivendell Reader.

Chianti if it's a Bianchi, Pinot Noir or Merlot if it's a Cannondale, and PBR caps if it's a fixie.

I thought the PBR cap went on the stem cap on fixies. <shrug>

Three words: Ell Bee Ess. That would definitely be a freeby at the shop where I work. Those things accumulate faster than we can use them up.

I prefer corks from brandy bottles.

You could plug the ends with silicone caulk. White, black, almond, etc.
