Winter Cycling - Biking in the Winter

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Anyone have tips on biking in the cold?
How about on slipperier roads?
Does anyone even attempt it?
I'm going to be biking in hilly Pittsburgh, so anyone who has experience there would be great to hear from.
I've got a mountain bike with mountain bike tires, so maybe that will help a bit.
Thanks!

Check out the winter forum. Proper clothing and equipment = you can ride in just about anything.
You'll find that there are ALOT of us who ride (commute, fun, etc) year round.
Just browse the information here in the Winter forums and be enlightened. ;)

I was car-free in Denver for years. If I had one thing to do over again it would be to get carbide studded tires. Consider platform pedals so you can wear comfortably loose insulated boots, extra socks, and wind/water-proofs boot covers. When it got below Zero F the amount of head covering I needed kept me from wearing a crash helmet. Three and four layer gloves will be needed at some point. Cross country or mountaineering stores can help.
