Road Cycling - Bizarre Poll...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
What do you wear on the bottom half when riding?

Sorry Underwear Nazi but I wear undy's under my cycling shorts , it saves me having to wash them out every time I use them (the shorts that is) , I've tried it without & it does'nt make any diff. if you're carefull about the cut & stiching of the underwear you buy !!! + some of the cycling shorts I use for work are pre-owned & while it does'nt worry me to wear 2nd hand shoes without socks I'm not keen to wear 2nd hand shorts without underwear !!

Wierd... I do not like the idea of used shoes OR shorts. ;) But if I were to wear one of the two it would be the shorts. They can be FULLY, carefully washed and sterilized. It would be nearly impossible to do this with shoes.
To each our own. ;)

Underwear under bike shorts is unsightly, unseemly, unclean, unhealthy, unnecessary, unwise, unhygienic, unsavory, ugly, dirty, dangerous, disgusting, deleterious, and dumb.
It is impure, immoral, improper, nasty, naughty, filthy, foul, fetid, hazardous, harmful, and horrible.
The practice of wearing underwear under bike shorts is an evil abomination.
It is sick, sad, sinful, sorry, stupid, rank, rotten, rude, revolting, and basically bad, bad, bad.
Underwear rides up, binds and chafes. It traps bacteria and leads to bleeding, infected saddle sores. Wearing underwear under bike shorts is just wrong and anyone who advises you to do so is wrong.
Am I making myself clear?
No underwear under bike shorts, for any reason. Ever. No excuses.
Got it?
Good.
Some underwear advocates think it makes them look rebellious, and devil-may-care to put whitey-tighties under their bike shorts. It doesn't. If you want to look rebellious and devil-may-care, take up smoking. Undies under bike shorts is bad for you!
Pjbaz, you can be forgiven for asking, since you are a newbie. Lots of newbies are shy about going commando the first time. Get over it. Visible panty lines don't look modest, they look silly.
But, Greywolf, you sick puppy, you should know better. Wash your shorts!
Underwear Nazi
I mean it. Wash those shorts!
Greywolf,
I have 5 pairs of shorts and or bibs, that way at least
one pair is always clean.
no undies, period.

What does'nt kill you makes you stronger :crash: , To wash cycling shoes wait till the wife is out & pop them in the dishwasher but delete the drying-cycle as this melts the soles & welds them to the plate racks , very hard to explain

if your shoes are made of anything but plastic, i.e. leather, or have cardboard under the inserts or felt or anything like that...don't bother taking them out of the dishwasher. they're toast. oh and any metal might rust too.
i've got two pairs of used cycling shoes and, after much wrestling with my germophonic inner child, decided to just wear them (with socks of course!). maybe a little alcohol rubbed around inside would kill some critters, but it might also mess with the plastic.
i can't think of any real way to clean shoes thoroughly enough. and now i'm creeped out just thinking about it.
but now i understand how someone could buy used cycling shorts, if s/he is wearing underwear. but oh!!! the chafing!!!! and i'd still know that the ghosts of a few 'treadmarks' lurked in the chamois somewhere.
ok, are we *all* creeped out now? i feel the need for a shower and all new clothing.
Never had a problem with tighty whities under the cycling shorts...helps prevent brown skid marks on the chamois..hehehe...:D
