Hey, well, a friend told me that he saw this article in the local paper about the bike park I proposed.

Here's what it says:
Bike park peddled for Middleton
Skateboarders are not the only group hoping for a recreational spot in the Town of Middleton.

In its latest newsletter, the town is gauging puplic interest in the possibility of constructing a skateboard park.

Erik St-Gelais, a student at Middleton Regional High School, is making a case for a bicycle park for the town. He told councillors during their regular meeting that while a skateboard facility is a good idea, a bicycle park would also be very poplular in Middleton.

"I know a lot of people have skateboards, but most people I know have bikes," he said. "Many of my friends, and a lot of others, would love the idea of having their own bike park."

He added that these parks are popular in other large cities and used the example of Glen Eagles Park, British Columbia. This course was designed for mountain bikes. The jumps mostly consist of various planes of densely packed dirt.

Riders of different skill levels could feel confident using the park, that is fairly inexpensive to construct, he said.

The parks don't require a lot of space and can be monitered by the users. Rules could be posted to ensure that users wear helmets and ride their bikes responsibly.

He added that the research he has done suggests that bicycling is a rapidly growing sport in Canadian cities.

Mayor Calvin Eddy commented him on his presentation and said that the town is trying to determine the level of interest in a skateboard park.

Mayor Eddy added that council would take his presentation into consideration

Any comments?

Oops, I guess I missed the whole link thing... oh well. Didn't notice they had it on the internet, since it is a really small paper, and is only put out once a week.

Norco,

Let me congratulate you on taking matters into your hands.

You have likely earned the respect of the council members as well as others who attended the meeting.

Regarding your decision to post a scan/digipic of the article, great idea. A link to the web story is convenient and clean, but it doesn't feel and smell like newsprint. And yes, I can smell the newsprint from here.

Again, congratulations and good luck, I hope it works out.

cheers

I know how it feels to get something about you or something you did in the paper, especially at your/our age.

And considering your efforts, you just went up a notch in my book. I know we all hang **** on you, but you obviously put some damn hard yards in, and to get the attention/time of day/respect from councillors especially, once again, a our age i know is hard. Props man.
Im feelin' all warm inside....Its a good feeling when something good happens to someone who deserved it.
