I have a new bike with Mavic Cosmos wheels. The rear is 28 hole, three cross pattern both sides.

The spokes on the drive side are MUCH tighter than the spokes on the other side. Is this normal? Can the spokes on the non-drive side be tightened without damaging the wheel, or losing the "dish"? Should they be tightened? I would say they are loose enough that you can push some lateral deflection at the rim pretty easily.

Any advice out there would be greatly appreciated.

Drive side spokes are supposed to be tighter... because they're closer to the centre of the hub they need to pull a little harder.

On my wheels with 8-speed Dura-Ace hub the difference is significant.

Just thought you'd like to know that my rear Mavic Cosmos is the same as yours - fairly loose on the non drive side.

cheers,
