SO my motherboard is toast. This sucks. I'm also noticing a pretty slim selection of socket 478 motherboards.
New egg has a whopping 3 choices! Looks like the world has moved on to bigger and better things. Currently I am running a 2.8ghz p4 processor. Would now be a good time to make some serious upgrades? Like a modern AMD 64 bit setup with ddr2?

Sounds good. If this is for one of your projects, be sure that your softwares are compatible and if not, then you can get some that are.

I really don't want to do this. My old graphic card and 512 stick of RAM has been fine for me. Maybe I'll be lucky and find some halfway decent socket 478 to keep me happy for a while.
