Hi there! I'm new in every way to the world of cycling. When I was a kid I got my first bike and rode it for about 1 weekend total. My dad was so tired of running beside me that when the tires went flat from lack of use he just told me I broke my bike. I wasn't that heart broken about it ...

A couple of years ago I bought a Treck hybrid and started riding. I rode everyday - around this circle in my neighborhood - it was the most boring thing in the world...so again I stopped. But now, I have a beautiful Specialized road bike and I'm getting ready for group rides, doubling my speed on hills (so glad I'm not at 5mph on the little hills anymore!) and enjoying road riding very much!!

My goal is to ride the length of the Outer Banks of NC by the end of fall this year and ride the Blue Ridge Parkway, next fall.

I'm a part time student (massage therapy and soon Muscle Activation Therapy) and I work with a Law Firm to pay bills. Believe it or not I quit corporate america to pursue this dream :) pain management - not Law Firms. haha! :)

Well, I've rambled enough. I'm looking forward to all that you guys have to teach!! I'm a blank slate at this point and I look forward to reading the forums!

Welcome from your neighbor in Hickory, NC. Where are you living? And...shouldn't you be saying Hey from RAINY NC? I am very tired of the constant afternoon thundershowers as it cuts in to my afternoon rides. Hope you enjoy the Forums! Liz

Thanks for tall and Cycle magic, I'm in Raleigh and the "Sunny NC" was very wishful thinking!! I haven't ridden in the rain yet and I'm nervous to do so, but if this keeps up I'll have no choice!! I've had to ride on trainers and at the gym because of all the rain - and I won't even start on the lake that use to be my back yard!!

(oh, I do intend to ride in the rain - not afrain to get wet - just thought I should get more comfortable on the bike before I add wet city roads into the equation.)

ride the Blue Ridge Parkway,

Welcome to the forums, Grasshopper.

Riding the Blue Ridge Parkway is one of my cycling goals too. Of course it has been a goal for about twenty years and I still haven't accomplished it yet.
