I'm going to be moving to Bakersfield and am looking for advice on where to live that's close to the best riding routes. Coming from Ohio where a big climb is half a mile I'm looking forward to gettin' after some of the bigger climbs out west.

I plan on renting short term and it seems I should be able to find something in a good area for $1000 or less/month. Any suggestions?

You might want to pm member DanteB as he is from that area and an avid cyclist (that's an understatement - he loves to do triple centuries) - nice guy to boot - I'm sure he can give you some pointers!

Try to find something close to the bike path in the west, mainly the northwest. The bike path is a 21 mile class “A” path. From the east end you can get to all kinds of climbing and great rides. On the west end it is flat and great for doing interval training. PM me and let me know what kind of climbing you would like to do. If you’re here next weekend the local club is sponsoring a ride called the Spooktacular. There are 2 different centuries, one with 10,000’+ climbing, the other with about 8,600’ of climbing, a metric, 40 and 25 miler.
