ok, it's cold and raining and I'm bored... so here are some shots from my phone:

LD1000 - notice the black internal molding framing each led:

LD1100 - no internal molding:

it's fairly easy to determine which is which in the comparison shots.

front beam:

side beam:

another front:

and at an angle:

the shots don't really illustrate how much brighter the 1100 really is. cateye says just 100%, but this thing is strikingly brighter. crossing the beams completely washes out the 1000. no comparison really, and it appears all they did was remove the black internal molding.

Quite a technological leap! (If removing the molding is all they did... )

Thanks for posting that, marko. Glad to know how the two compare from the standpoint of a first-hand witness. Good stuff. I just wish the price wasn't quite so high for the 1100 (seems like the couple of places I've seen it have it for the the full $40 price or thereabouts). But maybe one of the vendors will have it on sale sometime soon -- and with an applicable additional discount coupon... ;)

I suspect they used brighter leds.

I know on the new TL-LD610 they claim it's not only brighter than the previous TL-LD600
(which I own) but it runs 100% longer. Better efficiency leds can do amazing things.

As a matter of fact, according to what the Cateye customer service people told me via e-mail, the newer LED technology is the biggest factor/change in the TL-LD1100. They could also have played around with the housing a bit, too, but what they told me was that the main differences were related to newer technology in LEDs.

Is this a possible contender to the throne occupied currently by Dinotte? It looks like it at least beats the Superflash.

Also nice that they simplified the operating modes. I think many found that annoying. Edit: Actually maybe not, according to some other websites :P

To the OP,

Did you notice any shift in the lenses? Perhaps a magnifying glass is needed to see if there are some changes in the lens that you won't really see from the naked eye. I'm thinking possible narrower lens with some slightly wide lens to give a brighter light or what I just said combined with newer LED's or just newer LED's in the old housing.

The DiNotte is still the king. The Cateye may be bright but the DiNotte is bright enough to use as a headlight. As for the Superflash---eh, who knows? The Cateye may be brighter but the Superflash is cheaper, smaller, lighter, and easier to use(I'd rather push one button twice than two buttons 4 times).

That's crazy how much brighter the 1100 is. And, now I know which one I've got... the 1000. :(
