So, Joy and I did a little 'ol ride (28 measly miles) around PV today. I met her at her place and we were off at 7:15am to a good, strong pace. Neither of us ate anything as our plan was to go straight to Good Stuff, have breakfast while ogling the spandex-clad group of "Donut ride" participants (good Lord, those men can afford their donuts!) and then do an easy 40 miles.
Yeah...well, that WAS the plan. Once at Good Stuff, I stuffed an egg and turkey enchilada with black beans and some potatoes in my face, while Joy had pancakes (to see Joy's "hole," look at pics below) I didn't eat the whole plateful of food, but I never eat that much before a ride! The view was great and we were, after all, doing Roadfix proud by posing on the patio smiling at (okay, so I was leering...what of it?) the hot male cyclists and enjoying the morning. 45 minutes later, I was lethargic and sleepy as we took off to really start our ride of the day. The 40 mile plan was beginning to crack. As we got closer to the Starbucks in PV, Joy asked me how I felt. She said the pancakes were just sitting in her stomach and she too felt sleepy. Well, what are some girls to do? Why, pose, of course. So, we stopped at Starbucks, ordered fresh drips, flirted with (okay, so I panted, drooled and licked my lips at them...what of it?) spandex-clad men out for their morning ride.
George, I hope you are reading this, because Joy and I may have just beaten your posing record...1.5 hours worth!
Joy, the consummate athlete who couldn't let us be complete lazy butts, did take us up some hill that starts with a Z. On the way there, I think the coffee sped her up, and she blew right through a stop sign IN FRONT OF a policeman! He was cute, cute, cute, but not amused. He pulled her over. I, who saw him, and who is also “nervous nanny” who stops at most stop signs anyway, did stop. So, I wasn’t a criminal of the law, like Happy. However, she flashed him her charming smile and tilted her chin just so - she was also very respectful, humble and resigned to the fact that she’s an outlaw - and the policeman didn’t give her a ticket and let her off with a mere warning slip. Of course, I knew secretly that this was Happy’s way of ensuring that all cyclists are safe on the roads of PV and that she PLANNED to be pulled over by the...hot…um…policeman. It was for the good of others.
After getting the warning slip (a sort of symbolic spanking, if you will), she then decided it would also be her civic duty to find a fireman to tell him about the cyclists on the roads and how we all need to work together to keep the roads safe for both motorists and cyclists (she’s my hero! She is so altruistic in her passion for servicing all of us and championing for our safety needs). So, after climbing a dreadful hill (starts with a Z and it kicked my lazy, slug butt), we “accidentally” ran across a local fire station at which there was not one but many hunky firemen. Joy flashed them that smile with the tilt of the head thing again (I’m so fascinated and I should learn from the master), and they lined up willingly. One of them…hot…um…fireman used to be a roadie, so he and Joy took their time looking over her campy.
Anyway, it was a nice ride…easy going, relaxed and all about public safety. I hope I get some mojo before tomorrow, or I may return to that fire station to practice the “smile-head-tilt” thingy myself! :D
