Mountain Biking - Is my shock spring too heavy

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Hey, I ride a rocky mountain pipeline, and currently I have an Vanilla R in the rear. I have a 950lb spring and a 1.5 inch stroke. I weigh about 120lbs. I called Rocky Mountain and they recomended an 800 lb spring or 850. However I'm not sure whether I need it. I can bottom the rear suspension out when standing up. How can I tell thought if its the appropiate weight?

You can bottom out a 950?...800 should definately be more than enough. Also keep in mind it is usually easy to bottom out a bike bouncing on it. It is how it reacts to the stutter bumps of a trail that matters
