Road Bike Racing - Didn't know climbs are scary in TDF

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hardly ever watch racing but I was in a bike shop today and they were playing a DVD of TDF while I was waiting on my bike to be tuned up. They race on this small road...like have the width of a one way road you'd take going up a mountain. There's no guard rails or anything to stop you from going over... And some of the sections looked like they had a steep drop. Imagine if someone crashes and falls over? What's even scarier is they have to descend down the road eventually...and that means high speeds. Has anyone ever fallen over a cliff and been seriously hurt. It doesn't look safe at all.

Do you consider 'dead' seriously hurt?

Do you consider 'dead' seriously hurt?

Death is painless.

Death is painless.

Its just the process that can be problematic.

Its just the process that can be problematic.

But it does resolve in the most unstressful manner imaginable.
