I was just wondering if anyone knew of any drawbacks to the Kestrel Talon. Every review i have read only lists problems with the internal cable routing on the smaller models and i am somewhere between a 58 and 60 so i dont think there would be that much of an issue. My LBS is getting in a few in my size in about a month where i would be able to test ride it. I am not looking to buy until early Feb. so i want to make as much of an informed decision as i can. I will be using it primarily for tris. (sprint, olympic & HIM) It almost looks too good to be true.

i considered getting the talon a couple months ago. it seemed like a good deal as far as bang for buck...most of the reviews were very good...and those that have the talon here on bikeforums swear by them. it seems like a great bike!

however...i ended up getting a separate road bike and tri bike. (i had to sell some beloved cameras to do it but i think it was worth it!) for me...it came down to this: i wanted my road bike to be capable but comfortable for long long rides...and the 2007 Specialized Roubiax Expert Compact Rival fit that bill pretty well...it fit me perfectly...and i got a great closeout deal on it. and for my tri bike...i wanted light, aero, proven, fast and i found a great closeout deal for the 2007 Cervelo P2C.

i don't think i could have gotten quite the combo with the talon. the talon is a tiny bit heavier that i'd like for a road bike...and just a tiny bit not aero enough for a tri bike. and the variable position seatpost on the talon was just a tiny bit off for me...because the didn't position the rear wheel far enough underneath the mounted rider’s center of gravity.

but if you need one bike to do two jobs, i think the talon is a great choice! i hear the cervelo soloist also is a good choice...and maybe the dual as well. the other option is to get a great road bike and convert it for tri use when you need to. that's what i was going to do before i found the Cervelo P2C on closeout!
