So, I'm out in Anzo Borrego state park checking out a hot springs RV park and future dirt biking adventures on Saturday. Driving the Redneck Mobeeeel. AKA 2006 Dodge 2500 diesel, 4 door, 4 wheel drive. AKA toyhauler, AKA almost midlife crisis toy, AKA whatever the jealous guys at work who can't afford one call it.
Anyway, came out of a trail onto HWY S2 and get immediately flagged down by two 20 somethings in a Chevy asking if I have any tow straps. I follow them about a 1/2 mile off the highway down a sandy wash. Their buddies Ford Ranger pre-runner style is buried up to the rear axle and half the bumper in the sand. Apparently they forgot the old adage that momentum is your friend in the sand. Hooked up the straps to their bumper and around my front tow hook and pulled them out of the stuff back to the HWY. They even gave me $20 bucks for bailing them out. Sweeeeeet!!!!!
No real point to the story but earned my good Samaritan for the week.
Let the truck brand smack talking begin.

So them there lil'uns was stuck in that there mud. Well, I was happier'en a nun on a Tuesday. I threw 'em a a life line, gave them boys a show they'll never forget, I reckon. Yessir, this here Dodge is a real man's veehickel. Off to the peelers, gotta gets me some dollar bills
and an empty seat on sniffer's row. yeehaw!:roflmao:

I remember we were plowing around in a new subdivision and got stuck with a buddy once in his stock jeep. we called for a friend, HE got stuck. So now we have three lost souls, looking like chumps. We actually left them there overnight, and came in the morning. Thank god we saw a grader tractor, and he managed to get both out no prob. Not much of a story, but it happens to everyone once, right? :)

You only got excited because the Ford really wasn't a real Ford. It was some young guys half baked idea that he can become a Ford man with a <cough> Ranger. That's like sayin a Dakota is up there with your beefy 4 door 4 wheel drive dually diesel.

Git er done.

I don't do anything stupid in my stock Explorer, but it's definitely more capable than that a stock Ranger, and some of the stuff I have done in the Explorer would high-center or bury most tiny wannabe pickups.

Isnt a pre-runner 2WD? Not too good off-road.

Not really. 2 wheel drive? how much ground clearance? Please. My Focus could probably offroad better.

Prerunner with 3x MSRP put into modifications

Fixed it for ya.

Shoot, I had an 86 Ford Ranger 4x4 short bed that would go wherever I wanted it to. The ground clearance was really good and the six banger would pull any hill. I could throw a little weight in the bed and that took care of the traction.

I could take it more places than ANY full size 4x4 because it was smaller and would fit between trees and never got high centered.

I left jeeps crying in the woods, chevy's gulping their last gasp and dodges whining like a lost porcupined dog. :)

Each truck has their good and bad points but my little "Ford that could" was a great truck.

Let the truck brand smack talking begin. In that you own a Dodge and it is safely within it's two year self destruct period, I won't say anything, but maybe think about tradin up to a real truck sometime in 2008.

I recommend a '68 Charger. It would be a step in the right direction.

I can't even begin to describe the great quality of this truck... I have seen it pull through so much use and so many miles.

It's not actually an '81 accord (I owned one) but it looks close. Citation? Phoenix? No clue what movie it's from.

In off-roading, it is often more about the driver than the vehicle. If the driver doesn't know what he is doing, it doesn't matter what he is driving, he is going to get into trouble.

Right, because I'd rather have a brand who can't seem to keep a decent motor in their diesels rather than have one with the best track record for consumer use.
How many variations has Ford had in the last decade? Chevy having to go to an Izuzu motor?
As someone who's hobbies run into all types of trucks hauling around all types of toys, I'll stick with Cummins thank you. I only outgrew my 95 Dodge because the toys were outgrowing the transmission rating and I'd rather just buy a new one that upgrade the old.

But if you are going to use a truck for real work, my first hand experience with Dodge let me know quick they would have rather stayed home and waited for that weekend hauling the toys. What good is having the Cummins if the trannies can't handle a wimpy 10' Fisher plow. I'd rather push snow around with a Ford or a Chevy any day of the week.

Cummins makes an great engine, but it seems like it is about the only thing Dodge has going for itself. Everyone has their own fancy. We have had no trouble with the 2500hd, and wouldn't be caught dead pulling a 5th wheel without that amazing Allison.

ax0n
10-16-07, 10:18 AM
On a bizarre side-note: last night, I saw a 2500HD at the grocery store with a sticker in the back window. It was a Dodge logo. Below it, the text "LIFE IS TO SHORT TO DRIVE ANYTHING ELSE" was plastered onto the window. I'd say it's a Kansas thing, but I'd be lying. The human race is rife with incompetence.

I forgot my cell phone at home, and really wanted to go back home and get my camera, but it wasn't worth the hassle of a 4 mile round trip in the cold.
