You are saving the wife with one hand so you can only save one bike…
Which one?

F the bike, I would grab onto my wife with both hands and make sure she was out. My bike can always be replaced. The love of my life for the last 32 years cannot be.

I hope this was not really your house?

But some poor guy had to decide which bike...

He didn't lose a bike, he got an excuse to buy a new one!

Well, I already parted with the ex-wife. But this is the bike I've had for 35 years and got from a friend now deceased. So this would be the one.

Since I have the other hand free do I get to choose a second bike????

Is that a Kokusai/International? I rode a late 1970 / early 1971 Semi-Pro (serial KS78091) for 20 years, until the BB shell broke.

Nope, as you can see from the head badge, its an American Eagle/Nishiki. It says American Eagle, but its obviously an Nishiki logo. It was my commuter for decades, but now has been retired for fun rides and got a Brooks saddle as its retirement present. :D

Speaking of which (not to derail this thread from it's wonderful "Sophie's Choice" tenor), in 1980 I bought two bikes: a Nishiki and a Raleigh. They been stored in a garage all these years. Would it be worth trying to refurbish these?

BTW: I would save my wife, and then out of gratitude she would be expected to buy me a Madone 5.2. I would miss my Buenos Aires, however.

Oops. Silly me. Which bike would you save, not which bike vs wife you would save. OK.

BD, you're looking a little chubby in that photo. Have you been putting on weight?

PS, I'm a Vandy grad, if that explains my new-found hostility.

Yes, by all means. You should spend thousands of dollars on each to bring them up to current standards. Put SRAM Red components on the Raleigh and Campy Record Carbon on the Nishiki. Put at least a couple thou into each set of wheels. ;)

WOOF-WOOF :D

After the way the ex treated me and my kids, she can get herself out the fire.
