4MR is a pretty good trail since they repaved parts of it earlier this year. I was on it for a few miles on Sunday before I switched to the W&OD for more speed.
Heading east instead of west you have a good restaurant district in Shirlington, and crossing the highway you can take it all the way to National Airport.
