I really want one of these. Eventually... It's basically a trench coat [duster] made of brown suede. I've found some nice replicas but $400... JEEEZ.

Haha, I'm such a geek, and +800 to anyone who knows what I'm talking about.
"big damn ___" is a reference.

You want a space cowboy costume?

Falkon

just the coat, and I'd actually wear it. My favorite coat which was a super warm lined trench coat from the surplus store has gone missing. In the mean time, I'm going to have to get another.

I'm perfectly happy with my black M-65, besides, can you wear something like that while riding?

I know you can ride a horse with one on but as near as I can recall, horses don't have hungry chains and cogs to eat dangly things.

I have winter biking gear for that. I could always get one of those Amsterdam bikes with the skirt guard haha.

What are people wearing trench coats trying to hide?

I view guys in trench coats the same way i see those girls who hide their hands in their sweaters and cross their arms.

Body language, all very subtle...but it's there if you look hard enough.

This of course excludes fat old business types

Why are you trying to draw conclusions from a coat? Surprise! I'm not wearing pants!

Perhaps it's... I dunno... the arm, shoulder, chest area because I'm friggin' cold. If you're talking about wearing a trenchcoat in the middle of July, then I guess what you're saying would apply. It's a winter coat man... let it go.

I'd love to have one of those full-length, black, double-buttoned leather coats. They were in style in the 20s and 30s, but after WW2, they probably became associated too much with Nazis.

Too bad, because they look damn good!

I have one that is a bit large on me--it is an exact replica of a u-boat officer's deck coat.
I got it too wear in lawschool during the middle of winter, when our heating failed for
like two months--the building is made out of poured concrete so it was like an ice box--
if you wear around a size 48 chest or even 46 and you want to pay the dough PM me--

Yeah, but the thing is that you fit the other bill. An inability to talk to women because you draw conclusions about them.

You're still doing it. You're trying to fit me into a stereotype, and that's pretty asinine. Please don't project your own self loathing on top of my own. You said you're not here to be the therapist, yet you're trying to make an inference as if you have your PHD etched in lucite sitting on your desk. Go and read just about everyone else's opinions, then seriously take a look at what you're saying and maybe you'll understand just how asinine it is. Even though you didn't come off in the greatest way, the beginning of your advice was actually helpful, but then degraded into this stereotyping condescending tone you're taking on now. Everyone has stereotypes. The difference is, a good number of us don't publicly try to degrade others by forcing them into a stereotype. Now, if you want to address something like this in the other thread, I think that would be more appropriate, but don't start this bull**** here.

My initial advice was candy coated.

There are a ton of guys out there who do nothing but act like little *****es, putting women on this pedestal that isn't deserving. It prevents them from approaching a woman to have a conversation about anything. Women become some sort of mystical being not worthy of your social interaction.

What it comes down to is an an inability to like yourself. I'm self loathing because i already have a woman that i love. How do you think i got to that position?

If Warmth is your concern, which I saw on one of your posts, I would recommend a ski jacket.. Something like the cloudveil headwall is trendy yet warm/practical.

I see what you're saying. There is your point. Tell me why you couldn't have just said that instead of coming off with these implications like I'm some sort of complete shut-in. My own disdain for myself is not caused by not being good with women. I'm really starting to believe these people saying it's a by-product. All I'm saying is, don't make inferences on me as a whole and go handing them out based on the little bit I have let be known.

Have you seen the Firefly series? Short-lived, and extremely well done. I just happened to be watching it at the same time I was realizing I need a new winter coat.

If you're looking for something functional yet more stylish in its simplicity, Prana made a really awesome slim fit wool jacket for a while with an eastern style collar, wooden clasps, and generally high levels of comfort. Incredibly warm. It even came in brown.

Don't know if it's still in production, but I would go for something like that. Or a minipuffydown like the ones made by patagonia. Well worth the money.
