Foo - I need some Photoshop help.

Let me first state that my Photoshop skills are minimal, I might as well be using Paint.

With that said, I am working on a logo for my hockey league.

I am unsure of how to create text where a letter is half one color and half another.

The text in question passes through a solid blue area. Where the text passes this area, I'd like to make it white and then when it leaves the blue area, it should turn blue again.

One way would be to make two layers. Actually make the text twice in each color, then use the promote and demote layer to make one color go behind the logo and the other go on top. Then just line them up where they cross over so it looks like it's changing half way. You might have to use the lasso tool to draw out areas and promote them to layers.

My photoshop skills are also minimal. I mostly just retouch photos, but this is how I've done similar things.

I see how this would work if the letters were different colors, but in this case, it's the same letter that is split into two colors.

Any suggestions?

You need to create two layers, one with the text in each color you want.
Then delete the parts of the top layer of text letting the bottom layer show through.

1.) Click so you are at the top of the layer pallet.

2.) Click the text tool
Type the text
Move the text where you want
Click the check mark when done

3.) Duplicate the layer, select the new layer in the layer pallet.

4.) Change the color of the text in the top layer.

5.) Select the lasso tool, draw around the text you don't want.

6.) Rasterize top text layer.

7.) Hit the delete key on your keyboard, and deselect the text.

1. Select the letters only (Wand Tool or if the letters are on a transparent background, hold the Ctrl key done while clicking on the tiny image in the Layers window)
2. Click on top color square in the toolbox and select your first color
3. Hold the Alt and Delete keys down at the same time (it should fill the letters with color 1)
4. Select the Selection Tool (dashed rectangle) in the Toolbox
5. While holding the Alt key down, deselect the half you want to keep color 1 (the Alt key makes it a subtraction process)
6. Click on top color square in the toolbox and select your second color
7. Hold the Alt and Delete keys down at the same time (it should fill half of the letters with color 2)
