I really mean this...they aren't all bad. And despite the ******s that grow within, or at least are attracted to, i hate to say it, but they typically do a lot of good for the local communities.

Having said that, over time, these institutions have become a heaven for the attention starved, spoiled, and misguided. Why anyone would want to pay dues to what essentially boils down to a club full of people who feel the need to pay dues to be in a club...it baffles me.

My roommate went through the transition right in front of my eyes. When we first met he was a pretty cool guy with a decent gift on a keyboard (writing that is...English major). He told me he was going to rush, i said...have at it. Slowly he became the same knuckle head i've grown to despise. Inviting me to "exclusive parties" full of "CRAZY ****" and "hot *****es". Of course, he never actually followed through on those invites...not sure if i would have ever gone or not anyways.

It is also no great surprise that the majority of these kids hang out at the one bar in Iowa City who tries to be like every other lame ass-overpriced-too much fog-club i see in Chicago when my cousin convinces me to go out with her and her friends in the city. Funny thing is how badly it fails to that end. But if you're wearing a button up that is only half buttoned up, and your hair as nice and slick...your in for a real good time there, or something.

But as to make sure i'm not just another guy holding a grudge, i'll say it again, they do do good things and there are a few smart guys hidden in these houses. My former roommate got a little fedup of the "yay parties" (because that's what cool kids call it) on Sunday mornings.

I have another friend who is in a frat where it seems all they do is charity work and smoke pot...which hey, really isn't all that bad.

Why are they still around though? Tradition mostly, i'd argue. Source of income, i'd argue (rich alum daddies like to invest in their Alma Mater). That...and these are the only ****** bags who actually participate in home coming activities.

Those guys are absolutely repellant. Like I had feelings of ambient randiness before I clicked on that site and now I feel pretty much asexual. Yuck.
