Foo - Ban "More than a feeling"?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Goodwill had the radio on today, and I started wondering if there are certain boomer-area rock songs that have been played enough already. What would you ban? My short list:
Anything by Boston, it all sounds the same, and Smells Like Teen Spirit did it better anyway.
"Jack and Diane."--The Artist Formerly Known as John Cougar
Breakfast in America, the whole album.

For the second time today, nobody is kidding you. Bike Forums is not a stand up special.
If I had to chose one, I'd ban anything by Cher. Generally I agree with fuzzbox. Radio sucks.
I guess I'm talking about songs that might have been full of life back in the day but now are just worn out and deserve to have the plug pulled. Not talking about songs that still rock like Satisfaction or Whole Lotta Love, more like feeble stuff like Hot Blooded or anything by the Beatles.
When my wife and I were courting we got into a email bad song contest. I liked everything she sent
I started it by sending Convoy by CW McCall
She retaliated with
Disco Tex - Get dancing
Pop Music - Marcus
Philosophy Of The World - The shags
Jingle bells- The singing dogs
and much more
I loved then all and loved her more untill.........
Albert Morris - Feelings
I'm thinking ban We Will Rock You but spare Bohemian Rhapsody.

Renegade by Styx. It was by Styx.

Don't ban the Beatles! I, for one, think we would all benefit from more "Helter Skelter".

Although they are a tad soft, I do like Boston. Certainly no reason to ban them. And I've always liked the music Styx makes. Their isn't much to compare it to. And at least around here, nobody plays it very much anymore.

OK, OK, but absolutely no Wings and I mean it.

I can has a Michael Bolton Ban? Kthxbai..
BOSTON ROCKS! I don't care if I'm showing my age, just saw Van Halen last night with David Lee and they sounded great! David can still belt it out, maybe just not as high. Eddie and Alex are awesome! Eddie's son Wolfgang was on bass and played great. ROCK ON! Late 70's, early 80's rules!

I hate to say it, but radio ruined Zeppelin, all of it. I just can't hear it anymore.
anything by Asia or the Traveling Wilburys. Both a waste a vinyl, tape, laser etched plastic disk....

Theres only one Beatles song that shouldnt be banned, it should be unmade. The song is "You Like Me Too Much". Every other Beatles song still rocks.

I'm totally with you on Boston and entire Breakfast in America album. I'm still cool with "Jack and Diane" though....I still can't get over the nostalgic feelings that song brings back.
Men at Work - Who can it be knocking at my door?
Anything by U2 other than Joshua Tree album.
Anything by REM
Murray Head - One Night in Bangkok (Every 80s station plays it CONSTANTLY thinking they are unique)
Who let the Dogs out
God there are a few things about living near UGA that just really sux.
I'd rather sit through a preformance of Yoko Ono cleaning a black board with a metal grinder than have to endure that drunken chant.
Early U2 still played on radio has aged pretty well, I think. New Year's Day and Sunday Bloody Sunday still feel raw and charged. I agree on REM, KT, except the anthem Losing My Religion which can still mesmerize me on the interstate when I'm flipping the dial. Ooooooh, life.
as long as ya'll leave the dog barking christmas carols alone, we are fine. that and the christmas rapping song by teh waitresses.

Stairway to Heaven
Slow Ride (Foghat)
The Joker (Steve Miller Band)
Anything by Bad Company
Not that I didn't like these in the day (well, OK, I always hated "The Joker"), but they've been played enough for two lifetimes.

No, they are different. REO speedwagon is ****. Journey has a few cool songs. But they are most definitely not duplicates of Styx.

For my money, Van Halen just hasn't aged well. There was a time when they had this claim to being the hardest, most rocking band out there. (They weren't, but harder stuff didn't get on the radio.) Now, they're not even close. They just don't seem the least bit edgy anymore, just tired.

Majorly different perspectives. I really enjoy that Supertramp album, but couldn't give a dry fart for the Stones.
Any of the songs from the Rocky Movies - bury them.
Michael Jackson - sorry.
Foreigner - tossed.

Yep, they certainly weren't. Black Sabbath, the major creator of all that is heavy metal, deserves the distinction.
My problem with VH has always been that all their songs sound so much similar that they don't really interest me.

Ban anything by Nirvana (no one cares how much your life sucks) and anything by Nickleback. I don't listen to the radio though... Built my own music library.
Ban Grunge. If the 90s ever make a comeback I may have to ride it out in a cabin in the woods somehwere.

Pink Floyd
Nah, a moratorium on "Wish You Were Here", "Money", and "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2" would probably be enough. It's not fair to ban Piper at the Gates of Dawn (my favourite Floyd album) for sins it didn't commit.
So basically, what it comes down to, is that the radio ruins music. Not surprising, I don't think.

I'll concede that this song shouldn't be banned, but it is still not in the same league as their earlier stuff.
What makes me sad is how much Bono's voice has deteriorated over the years.

Them's fightin' words, especially comparing the Beatles - who only rescued rock from the Neil Sadaka/Pat Boone travesty it was becoming - to Foreigner, purveyors of the most consistently lame, embarassing lyrics ever (and that covers some pretty Gawd-awful ground). You at least saved yourself from a gruesome fate later. I can do without the Wings catalog - "Band on the Run" was an okay album, but it doesn't make up for the abominations that came later, so out it goes for the greater good. The first McCartney solo album deserves to live, though.
As for stuff that could simply disappear, I nominate:
Anything and everything by Foreigner - in addition to a jumbo assortment of dreadful lyrics (see above), they stopped doing rock and stared doing nothing by whiney, self-indulgent "power ballads". People have been shot -justifiably - for less.
Anything and everything by K.C and the Sunshine Band. Proof that some alleged music really is a felony.
"Afternoon Delight" - any song that can make sex seem trite deserves to die, publicly and horribly.
Anything and everything that includes Yoko Ono vocalizing. Entire Geneva Conventions were held to ban inflicting stuff like that on POWs.
Anything and everything by Guns 'n' Roses. Not because they are bad (they're not, and I love the first half of "Sweet Child of Mine"), but as punishment because they should have been so much better, and because Axel Rose just insists on proving what a pig of a human being he is.
"Free as a Bird" and the other post-mortem John Lennon songs that McCartney produced and released. There was a reason why John recorded those songs on a cheap tape recorder and never went back to them.
Anything Bob Dylan released after "Blood on the Tracks." Okay, make that after "Desire." He is nothing but a parody of himself, and that's been true for 30 years.
Rush. All of it. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Geddy Lee's voice sounds like I imagine red-hot knitting needles shoved through my eardrums would feel.
Everything The Mamas and the Papas did other than "California Dreamin'" and "Monday, Monday." I mean, have you listened to their other tunes lately? Do yourself a favor - don't.
Barry Manilow. His first big hit was a sappy love song to a dog. 'Nuff said.
Not only should Tony Orlando be banned from the airwaves, but every record of his left on the planet should be hunted down and destroyed. No way do I want some alien race or future anthropologists including that drek in any conclusions they reach about the era in which I lived.
And finally, since Barbra Steirsand will never get over herself, isn't it about time that the rest of the world got over her? It's the only way we will ever get her to shut up and go away.
Lest we forget... Olivia Newton John, Have you Never Been Mellow <Blech!>

Z high-fives the lawyer!!!
Notes that some REO Speedwagon lyrics may have been written by Foreigner. To wit:
You take it on the run baby
If thats the way you want it baby
Then I dont want you around
I dont believe it
Not for a minute (then what's the point of the rest of the sucky song?)
You're under the gun so you take it on the run

Crap. Joshua Tree is one of the most overrated albums of all time. Starts well, killer first four tracks, then quickly deterorates into a dreary dirge that you only know is over when the dull humming in your ears stops. Achtung Baby and Zooropa pwn Joshua Tree IMO
Now for the burn list
John Cougar Mellonhead - misty-eyed remenises for a time that never was piss me off. Should have stayed on the farm.
REO Speedwagon - WTF
Starship - Starsh!t. built this city = worst song ever
Steve Miller - How this bunghole held a recording contract for so long has me stumped.
Billy Joel - sacchrine rubbish, do-wop and second worst song ever 'we didn't start the fire'. Send him to Guantanamo
REM - Cant sing, can't play. Automatic for the People is the most boring, overrated album of all time. Rock critics wank over this album. They all secretly want to root Michael Stipe.
Those arsewipes who sing 'Eye of the Tiger'.
Jackson Browne. Wife beating creator of overrated lightweight elevator muzak.
Motley Crue, Poison, other late 80's/early 90's 'hair' bands. Technically not music IMO, but burn it all anyway
Elton John - anything post 'I'm still standing'. He always sucked, but now he has no talent left and sucks. Should do the right thing by us all and die immediately. Career already dead so should know what death feels like, plus will then be able to hang out with dead friends Gianni Versace and Princess Di, so this would be a win-win for everyone.
