Introductions - Hello from Guthrie OK

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

joined the forum looking for information, I am getting ready to buy a road bike and i'm in the learning stage and very green on the subject. I have been running and my doctor suggested a 2 or 3 day a week break from running so biking seems like a natural step. any info or suggestions are appreciated, brands, models etc..looking forward to spending lots of time in here someday I can return some of the help I expect I will find. thanks jon c5060:)

Hi Jon, first question is--what kind of riding do you think you want to do? Then, budget?
Welcome to BF!

Welcome to bike forums. Put on your riding clothes, grab your helmet and hit the bike shops. $1000 will get you a great bike at most bike shops. Ride as many bikes from as many manufactures as you can. Most bikes at a similar price point will be equally equipped as far as wheel and components go. Ride the bike for as long as the shop will let you ride. Try to ride aluminum and steel bikes so that you can feel the differences. To me, aluminum feels stiffer, but more responsive, steel has a more subdued feel, soaks up some of the vibration, esp. on chip seal roads.
After you have ridden the bikes, go with the one that feels best to you.

Thanks to those that responded to my thread and thanks for just having BF, I have learned a lot on this forum and have purchased a bike. I went with a Specialized Tarmac expert, now I am just looking forward to putting some time in the saddle. Once again a great big thanks to everyone:D
