I'm bummed. I'd be there but I have a work trip planned and I'm flying off to NJ on Sunday for a disaster recovery test. :crash:

Interestingly enough, this ride will be a recovery test for recursive.

Can we ride slow enough for him to consider it a recovery ride? That's the test.

May I suggest 10:00 to 10:15 for arrivals, meet and greet, setup bikes...

HARD START TIME: We roll at 10:20...
That should put us back there by 12-30-ish, perfect timing for a little snack there over talk of how awesome we all are, but pale in comparison to recursive.

Technically I still haven't asked the boss. I didn't want to pop it on her at 2am last night when my flight finally came in. This is after she thought I had arrived 4 hours earlier. She was thinking that I had been killed in traffic or something....oh and did I mention I lost my cell phone yesterday so she couldn't get ahold of me.

Jeez lets pick a place 2 1/2 hours away from Appleton.;)
I'm supposed to be either working or doing a cross race so we'll see what happens.
I figure its about 35-40$ woth of gas/food. Anybody doing more riding afterwards? If i'm making the trek the ride has to be epic :D. Now I'm actually considering it, 4+ hours in the car to ride for 3 hours with a bunch of guys 30 years older than me, that I met on the internet, my idea of a good time

I'll talk to my boss and my cross buddy tomorrow and I'll have an official answer tomorrow night.

Hip,

if you're going to go to all of that trouble, you should at least ride 3-3:30 hours.

i'm not just sayin', i'm sayin'.

...we just might end up doing that...who knows...it's easy to get lost out there.

Dear Young Frunkin,

As someone who is, what, say, 82 years older than you, I feel I have an obligation to pass along things I feel I have learned along the way.

Sometimes it's not about what it seems it's about.
Sometimes, a bike ride isn't really a bike ride at all.

Sure, you could cyclocross race or work.
Sure it seems like a lot of effort to ride too short of a distance for you with us.

But that's not the point at all now really, is it?

There will be plenty of races in your life. There will be plenty of long, long rides. And Lord knows there will be much work in your future.

How many times do you have the chance to be a part of something unique like this? A chance to experience the simple bonding between man, machine and people you feel you know through the internet because of our shared passion.

This is your chance to hear bad jokes....lame excuses...hearty laughter....shared cycling stories...recursive bragging about himself (well, wait, you already know about that part because you've raced with him)

....come out and play frunk!

Frunkin, to be honest with you, 2.5 hours is a long way to go for a (supposedly) casual/friendly 40 mile ride. It's in LaGrange because Hip's near there on weekends and it's only an hour drive for many of us.

Here's what you need to do. Work and/or do the cross race. Then, plan a ride up in Appleton for folks on the forum to attend, though at this time of year it can be dicey on who is willing to show up with weather possibilities and all. It costs nothing to plan a ride, advertise it on the board here, and have folks show up. Check the Psimet Invitational thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=339602)s out. Lots of folks showed up for some or all of the ride.

Show us your planning skills and put an Appleton route together!

Mrs. Hip now wants her Bianchi along...just loaded it on the truck. She's ridin' Sunday to meet us out there at the shop after our ride. You want a "C" group, she's it.

"A" Group--recursive, ahman23, clcypsycho....20+ mph
"B" Group--everyone else....16-19 mph
"C" Group--Mrs. Hip's touring club....10-12 mph

See you out there...Sunday morning....get there by about 10....

Would someone pick a route?

It would be nice to have a map. The Psimet "no drop" ride was one thing, I'm from the area and really wasn't worried about being lost.

"It's like we're going into Wisconsin." "Well I got the sh!t kicked out of me in Wisconsin once."

Again, getting dropped is no big thing but Wisconsin has the highest per capita rate of ax murderers. You get lost, they make a lamp shade from your skin.

iab, i printed up 5 copies each of maps for three of the potential routes on the backyardbikes.com website and will have them with me to hand out.

Also, we can get a list of phone numbers this time, too.

ETA... We'll probably choose one of these three (because these are the ones I printed):

I wouldn't mind the 40 mile route. We could show the Illiniosians that we have a hill in Wisconsin.

Besides, I need a new lamp shade.

Why do you have to stereotype like that?

Plenty of domestic items can be made, not just lamp shades. Curtains, trash cans, chairs. But everyone always assumes that just because I'm from Wisconsin, I make lamp shades out of people.

Anything with "bluff" in the ride title should scare you if you're from Illinois. So of your routes, all those that travel on Bluff Rd = ouch. I know. That road has kicked my butt at least three times. Not that it has a "climb," per se, just an annoying amounting of time going up. If you are going east to west on its whole length, it's a 12 mile "climb."

And by the way, Ned Beatty was in the south, anyway. Only thing to fear in Wisconsin are those "Americans for Prosperity" and their big pig at the state capitol.

I'll be in the Bowling Green, KY area next spring visiting my sister. Maybe you should start up the BFTNC or the BFTNKYC and have some rides! Beautiful area to ride (although there were lots of dogs near my sister and the locals have a habbit of stealing all the road signs so you're never really sure what road you're on).

Google: "People have been stealing the signs from county road 420 for going on ten years now, and residents who live along the road finally got so tired of it all, they started nailing the numbers to stop signs."

My sister gave me good directions to find their house: Go 10 miles down the road, turn right at the big church, take the second left and look for the white fence .... but hey, I found it!

Nevertheless JoePA is an old senile fart who needs to retire and take JayPa with him. We go to one away game per year. Unfortunately, we picked Michigan. That was a long car ride home.

Anyway, gentlemen, I was over in the Kettle today and thought I'd pass along that Bluff Rd is closed starting at the intersection of Betts Rd (eastbound, I think). Thought I'd pass it along.

Fixed for you. It's on US-12 at county H.
