Somehow the above thread grew to include the idea of a ride Sunday in SE Wisconsin on my home away from home turf.
I'm not sure what the forecast says, but should it be dry, I guess I'd have the bike out and be riding a little anyway.
If anyone is interested, lets shout it out here and see if something comes together.

Supposed to be in the mid-70's, per long range forecast. Sweet.
Who else is in?
Whats the route we are going to do? We could do the entire Oak Leaf Trail 110 miles I believe.
I ride at least the nothern half once a week . It allows every one to see all the parks system. Its a mixture
of roads and paths. Just don't let it be a corn field trip, god something about looking at cornfields for 2 hrs that I hate.
Chalk me in on this one either way, whats the start time going be.

I quite doubt Hip wants to do 110 miles.... he's already done a century! ;)
We would meet here: http://backyardbikes.com/
Hip, how far would you want to ride? Maybe pick a 40-50 mile route from the routes section of the website?
http://www.backyardbikes.com/Routes.asp
...take your pick I guess.
This would be the meeting point for a ride this Sunday.
I've done enough organizing work now...the rest is up to mapmasters CyLowe and or Psimet...you guys figure out what you wanna do and print out the appropirate map/Qsheet. Just remember what I said earlier...I've tried three of their maps and got lost each time!
30-40
I've been off the bike.
Fire's gone for the season too....but I wouldn't mind a fun little jaunt with the BIFNIC'ers.
Just remember what I said earlier...I've tried three of their maps and got lost each time!
This is half the fun. Just think of your 26 mile training route that you know too well. Sunday will be the anti-training ride.
This is for fun. It's late in the year and I've already put on a layer of blubber for the upcoming cold weather (gotta keep the natural gas bill down somehow), so my riding will be at a pretty sedate pace.
Pacelines? Nah.
Good conversation and fall scenery? Yeah
I'll peruse the route maps on the website and come up with something.

let the sand bagging begin. :)
and me too.

You in? Drive on up to Kane County and we'll get you the rest of the way to La Grange.
tough call.
first, i can only attend if the time spent riding is longer then the time spent driving to the ride.
second, the wife has another visit to another pumpkin patch/corn maze/petting zoo places planned for saturday. its suppose to be fantastic. however, she is going with some neighbors and has never officially stated my attendence is mandatory.
what to do, what to do. later.

Pumpkin farm on Sat, ride on Sunday. I don't see a problem? I'm taking my family to a pumpkin farm and all that jazz on Sat. Maybe I can make it on Sunday.
crap. the ride is sunday. sunday is a no go for me. i actually have/had a better chance if it was on saturday.
:(

Village Pedaler ride in S. Elgin. 7:30 am.
Just sayin'.....
Just looked at mapquest to see where Whitewater is...nope I'm not gonna make it. Have fun.

highly possible.
i do so want to ride with the hip though. :D
later.
I most likely will be there. I am in California this week through Wednesday so not sure how the negotiation at home will go, but you know me....I can't say no to a good ride.
Oh and consider my sand bag thrown into the mix. I was kind of hurting during the beginning of the weekly ride last weekend and it was an easy ride.
I may actually be able to do this ride....since it's a bye week for the Packers' this Sunday and I won't have to miss watching my buddy Donald Driver playing.

I don't do little jaunts.
Your souls will be crushed.
Edit: Whitewater looks good.
^Who invited YOU tough guy?
Shouldn't you be training to increase your chances of beating either aham23 if he ever gives up this silly running thing, or ryanf?
You're too good to ride with us.
You're an actual racer...should be a Cat 3 as I recall.

That's true, but I never forget the little people. It's ok though. I'll be riding my slow wheels and trademark "slow saddle".

Oh...well why didn't you say so then?!
That'll make you almost human like us.

Hip,
I stopped off in LaGrange yesterday on the way up to a job interview in Neenah. Did the 41 Mile Island-Hebron route. It's been a couple of years since I road the Kettle - forgot how beautiful the area is. While I prefer my own que sheets, I was able to make do just fine with the ones provided by Backyard Bikes. You guys enjoy your ride.
Hip, I printed off a few of the routes between 35 and 40 miles. They are good cue sheets, as far as I could tell.
What time would you want to ride so we can start getting a gauge on when to show up?

Currently he's Cat "Cougar". I mean he has a visual tracking center :D.

it was silly hawt and i got silly thirsty, but it's over. done with. i have returned to the roots of my greatness. i must ride with the legends of cheeseland. i must find a way. later.

atta boy...back to crushing souls and all that good stuff.

The problem I had with the sheets is that you get to dead-ends that the sheet doesn't mention...make a wrong turn and you're screwed.
However, with your sense of direction we should be able to make the proper guess and be OK.
Noon?
I'd probably like something earlier than noon so that the wife doesn't kill me for taking the whole day.
Wives, smives....come on now....
I don't care...I'm there already anyway...you tell me...just not too early.
Just you two or more there?
Has the route been decided? Let a brother know.
Go here: http://backyardbikes.com/Routes.asp Probably one of the routes listed as 35 to 40 miles.
Has the route been decided? Let a brother know.
are you pre-riding the route in order to plan out the best time to attack and show off your awesomeness. that is smart. later.
I'd probably like something earlier than noon so that the wife doesn't kill me for taking the whole day.
Yeah, earlier is better. 9:30-9:45 meet up, 10:00 am roll out?
Just throwing that out there.
...you mean I'll have to wake up early to do this now?
Crap.
Who's In?
--Hip
--CyLowe
--Psimet
--recursive (oh no, an actual racer. You show up you pull me the entire way then)
??
--No aham?
--Any other cheeseheads from this board?

...oh, he doesn't have to attack to show off his awesome self...I am already quite aware of that fact.
The only problem the kid has is finishing as far as I can tell....
Lets see...
I've watched him race a couple of times....
One was a thrown chain on the bell lap
One was a crash for no reason thanks to some other dufus
I've never actually seen recursive finish a race, but up until that point...yes...most awesome competitor to be sure.
Thought about it until the thought of Recursive being there scared me off and the inevitable racing that would result. Why must you men always be so competitive?
Watching your butts fade off into the distance while I go along alone at 16 mph is something I don't need to drive an hour for (although Kettle Moraine riding is great).

See, recursive already frightening people away....
Nooooooooooo.....listen, this is a FUN ride. No hammering. End of season....nice scenery....good conversation....a little deli or ice cream afterward at Backyard Bikes among friends.
Come ride with us....casual pace.
I've ridden with "P" and "CyLowe" before....they are very polite about waiting for me. :)
a little deli or ice cream afterward
Dangit. I thought they said ice cream BEFORE the ride.
I think you'll be doing the waiting up on this ride, Hip.
:o

Tremble before me, puny mortals!
Anyway, I apologize in advance, and retroactively. And currently for that matter. For being so awesome. But seriously, (I think) I am capable of riding at a leisurely pace. But when a ride has designated sprints, or other people riding fast, I really have no choice. If it's officially a "slow" ride, then I can abide by it as long as everyone else does. My technique is to never be in the lead. It's ingenious really. But then again, I did think of it.
Someday I'll be able to witness your collective "awesomeness", but this weekend it is not to be. Have a great ride.

Your claim of "being so awesome" has piqued my interest in this ride. I was planning on being at my villa on Lake Como to challenge Bettini in this weekend's Tour of Lombardy, but that may have to wait.
Bringing The Awesome is what it's all about. I like your style, kid.
Awesome.

Do we have a time yet?
I don't have to worry about having my soul crushed, real racers don't have souls (see avatar). Mine was sold long ago.
Bringing The Awesome is what it's all about. I like your style, kid.
And I like the cut of your jib, old man.
Wanna know why Awesome's creek is so awesome??
ME!
If nothing unexpected comes up I'm in. I'm not quite quite of Awesome's Creek's caliber, but I'm not known for stinking up the place either

Hey....it's getting kind of deep with these guys, but I assure you that if you showed I'd be right with you. Not a lot of riding lately coupled with travel (California has lots of alcohol and weird food I had to try) makes P man a dull rider.
BTW - Psimet trick to slow other riders down:"become a sales person and make with the open ended question small talk" People have a hard time riding hard and talking at the same time, and most will sacrifice the speed for the conversation.
Except for that yahoo from Awesome's Creek.
....good God you have to love this board....more verbal crap here than at a presidential campaign stop!
Come on...we need more riders.
I can see a larger group starting, then the group can splinter down the road....the awesome's can go play race games, and the rest of us hang back together. We all end up at the start point for said refreshments.
Forecast looks great...no rain....sun and 70.
Lets give it a chance to warm up though....a little later start possible?
I wanted noon.
CyLowe mentioned 10.
Compromise?
Lets nail down a meet/rollout time at Backyard Bikes.
First I reconsidered my earlier decline (fear?), then I remembered the Badgers play Penn State in Volleyball at 1 pm on Sunday. (#9 vs. #2; tied in conference at #1) I'm a big fan; got to go to that instead (7,000 screaming fans packed into an 80 year old field house with no air-conditioning, obstructed views, and open seating).
So, I'm going to go over to LaGrange Saturday and ride then instead. Oh well. I'm actually kind of bummed. Psimet had me talked back into it. Since Mr. Awesome and I share the same town, I've probably seen him whoosh by in full kit and not even known it.

NNNNNNNNNoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Wrong choice.
Come on now...do the right thing here Wiswell.
Since Mr. Awesome and I share the same town, I've probably seen him whoosh by in full kit and not even known it.
If you've ever seen my whoosh by, it was probably wearing basketball shorts and a t-shirt, which, freddishly enough, is what I actually wear most of the time I ride. And on a bike covered with stickers and fenders.
