Hello!
Just signed up to the forums, and thought I'd drop a message here to introduce
myself. I'm 25 years old, Hong Kong Chinese of descent, but currently living in
Western Europe. Studied at Amsterdam University, and am working a fulltime
job at the local government.
My history of sports is quite diverse, NOT because I'm an uber-athletic person,
but because I could never stick to one type of sport for long. I've played indoor
soccer for over 4 years, but had to give that up because of frequent ankle
sprains. Other stuff I've tried include martial arts, soccer, basketball and weight
lifting. None could hold my interest for long.
About 2 months ago, I decided I wanted something new ... something different.
'Why not cycling?' I thought to myself. So cycling it was gonna be. I bought a
cheap touring bike, put on my shades, shorts and T-shirt,
and went out for a ride. What a revelation that was! Feeling the sun shining
down on me, wind blowing past me, and above all, the major sense of freedom,
the sudden injection of energy ... it was great! Now, 8 weeks later, my
enthusiasm still hasn't worn off one bit, leading me to believe that THIS must
be THE sport that I should've been practising all along. Though I do feel a
little regret that I didn't start earlier, that regret instantly makes place for
happiness every time I see the new road bike i've got sitting in my room.
So, here's a picture of it (Koga Miyata, Shimano 105 parts, barely 5 hours old):

Looking forward to talking with you guys, and hoping to ride
a LOT of miles,
-D.
