I have had a mountain bike for awhile and just ride on the street/nature preserve trails but I want to get into some dirt. Where around the nw suburbs of chicago can I go?

Here's some places I found on www.gorp.com. I went to the state of Illinois, then the "biking" feature.

Des Plaines River Trail

The kettle is the best around. About 1.5 hours from the Schaumburg area. Deergrove is in Palatine and is O.K. singletrack. Very small but close. Palos hill in Palos is about 45 mins south of Schaumburg. That is about your only choices.

Deergrove is at the intersection of Dundee and Quentin rd.

John Muir and Palos are nice trails with lots of varying terrain and technical sections. They also have ranges for beginners and experts. A must for Chicago mountain biking.

Hi Yosh-

Consider geting the book called "Jiking and Biking in Cook County, Illinois". I know it's not exactly northwest Illinois, but it does have a lot for mountain bikers. It's written by Jim Hochgesang. I picked up my copy from Barnes and Noble, but I'm sure you can find it at any big bookstore.
