Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - Niterider Digital NiteOwl-II

So, I have a friend who is virtually giving this light away, battery and charger included. I'm wondering if it's worth it.

My commute is 7:00 AM-8:00 AM in Denver, CO and then 6:00 PM-7:00 PM and need about an hour and a half guaranteed of light. I also can't charge until night, but can do it every night.

Whaddaya think of it?

Heck it's a light for free and if you need a light I say go for it. The question is does the unit WORK first. If it works then the next question is to charge it fully then test how long the battery will run for. If the battery lasts 30mins and you need 1:30hr better pack a flashlight and alternate use on the NR light for the dark roads and use the flashlight on lite roads.

Or keep it and mod it to a LED light. If you don't I'd love it for a housing for my light build :)

I didn't say free, I said virtually giving it away. He has basically offered me a trade for something I no longer need, but he covets. And, I'm in the situation where my current light is not the best for my commute.

I was hoping for some product specific feedback.

Also, what is the difference between digital and the not digital versions? I'm a n00b, I know...

Mixed reviews...looks like it was a top of the line light back when it was new, but it had reliability problems. I'd probably base my decision on how much money the "coveted item" is worth.

Since there are no reviews newer than 2003 that light has got to be 4-5 years old. Unless the battery has been replaced recently it is probably going to need replacing soon. Check on prices from Nite Rider, which will be too high, but check for reference. Then consult your local Batteries Plus and determine how much it would cost for them to rig you a battery and charger. With the high cost of replacement batteries from the manufacturers, unless you have an alternative source, a new light is a better option.

The battery is new, it was recently replaced as the old one was fried.

So, no one yet has told me the difference between digital and not digital! Anyone? Bueller....?
