Cyclocross - absolute cheapest 26" cx tire

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
the title pretty much says it all. i'm going to be competing in a couple of events this year and money is tight so i'm converting one of my rigid mtb's. i'd like something 1.5" wide or less ideally. so far all i've found are the schwalbes and the hutchinsons, but at $50+ a set they are a bit more than i was hoping to spend right now. i thought for sure that kenda or cheng shin would offer a cx tire but i haven't had any luck finding anything.
thoughts? suggestions? used tires for sale? ...used tires for free to a starving college student? ;)

See if you can find a pair of Kenda Kwick 26x1.6". Or, just run what you already got.

Check bike tires direct, they have some good pricing.
Not sure where you live but here in Portland there are some bike stores that have used stuff and you can find almost new tires for 10$, check craigslist too.
Good luck and have fun.
