I am installing a disk brake Rohloff hub on a bike with the IS 2000 disk brake mounts, and need info on a compatible disk brake calipers and rotor disks.

My preference is Avid BB7 Road mechanical disks, although other brands with comparable performance and adjustment features would be considered. I think a 160mm rotor disk on the rear and 185mm on the front would probably work best.

Rohloff has 4-bolt rotor disks to fit their hub in 160mm for Shimano, Hayes, and a few others, but for Avid they only list the 203mm size. Avid lists the BB7 Road as compatible for 160mm, 185mm and 203mm size rotor disks. Somewhere I have read that disk brake calipers should only use rotor disks from the same manufacturer.

1) Does anyone have any experience fitting the Rohloff 160mm rotor disks to Avid BB7 Road calipers?

2) Does anyone have any other suggestions for a better system?

All comments will be appreciated. Thanks!

I spoke with Neil at Rohloff in Oakland before I decided on which hub I was going to get. If you haven't already found out the answer you need, you should contact him.

Not BB7s, but we have installed Carbon Juicys with Rohloff's standard 160mm wavy rotor. Works fine.

Spinninwheels, thanks for the suggestion! I emailed Neil, and here is his reply.....

"We only sell one rotor now. In the past there were multiple rotors
with different shapes to best match the given brake. The rotor we
sell (and Harris) is round with small holes in the brake surface,
similar to the older Magura or Shimano style. You should also check
out the Monkey Bone to simplify/clean-up the Speedhub installation
(http://www.cyclemonkey.com/monkey_bone.shtml). It eliminates the
Speedbone."

Eric:

Glad to be of help. I think as long as the disc brake set-up is for 160mm, you're good to go. Enjoy the Rohloff - you'll love it!
